LMRS Top end kit?

Well I'de decided I'm gonna do H/C/I before S/C my car. I've been looking around and found this top end kit from LMRS...

Looks like complete kit which would take the hassle out of ordering everything seperate. I was also looking into the trickflow top end kit but it is around $600+ more than this kit. I know patriot makes some good 4.6 stuff but couldn't really find much on the net about the 5.0 heads. The trickflow cam seems to be really good. I've heard the typhoon intakes need cleaned up on the runners before install.

I know everyone is going to chime in saying I can piece together a better setup for $1900 but actully making a choice is tough with all the options out there.
 
I went with the Trick Flow kit and it was worth every penny. Only two small gripes about it though... the upper intake bolts are a bit of a pain and the cam retainer needs to be modified to accept the taper head bolts that come with the kit.
 
do a google search on patriot heads before you pull the trigger. I did a post awhile back with pics of the patriot heads and the awful casting flash and port work. They are the bottom of the bottom aluminum heads ( along the flotek), next search on the intake, it has potential but again after the casting flash was smoothed out and some other areas cleaned up it wasn't bad. That is a junk kit IMHO. If you are spending money on a matched kit then go with trick flow or holley if not that make your own with much better parts...it will be money best spent and you will be much more happier.
 
Personally id never get a kit, its easier, but i'd piece things together and in the end come out with a better product. This is how i would do it(also if you bought some stuf used it will save alot of cash)

TFS fast as cast 185's(new)
Eddy RPM 2 intake(used)
75mm TB(used)
ARP head stud kit with the 1/2" to 7/16" stepped washers
ARP intake bolts or even studs

As far as the cam goes, when you boost it the stock cam will make enough power to crack a block, but it will be boring NA, so i dunno. Seems like you cant go wrong with a custom piece but for a simple HCI blower 302 i'd probly just call comp or something

I agree with this (except, don't you mean CNC 185s?), and that setup would walk all over any kit out there. Add a custom cam or a GOOD OTS cam, and you're probably looking at mid 300s to the tire and low 12 or even high 11 sec time slips in the right car.

Didnt mean the CNC'd 185's, but a quick summit search shows that there are alot of different TFS heads than the last time i looked. Dunno why but the CNC is cheaper than the FAC on the 185's, but neither of those was what i had in mind.

I would go with FAC 170s, simply because they are only 1200 bucks and i read somewhere that the port was designed to be cast to the 185 CNC port specs

I noticed that before, and I would have to believe the 185 "FAC" is a typo on Summit's part. If you look at their description, it is a fully CNC head.

My understanding from the homework I've done is the TF TW lineup is this:

170 "Fast As Cast"
190 "FAC"
185 CNC
205 CNC
206 "Race" "FAC"
225 "Race" CNC

All of these heads are offered with different component options, and that is where the "Track Heat" and "Street Heat" terminology comes into play.

The FAC 170 is actually the original TW head. The 185 and 205 are just CNC hogged out versions of the 170. The FAC 190 is supposedly an as-cast version of the CNC 185s, and performs somewhere between the FAC 170 and CNC 185.

The Race heads are actually a different head, but based on the Twisted Wedge design. The 206 has cast ports and the 225 is fully CNC'd. The 225 is a bad mama jama.

This is the head i was thinking of, i got confused with all the different FAC heads they offer now. I'd go with the 190, Ive heard great things about the cylinder head and that it cant be beat for the price.

But even the 170 FAC heads will make way over 400 hp when the blower is bolted on

When it first came out, few people had any experience with it. Then after a little while, it seemed that everybody was raving about it. Now as of very recently, I've heard mixed reviews about the 190. What I WILL say, is that from what I've seen, anybody who has said negative things about it had NO factual data to back their claims. The people who have good things to say about it have dyno numbers... And GOOD dyno numbers at that.

Thats pretty much my setup but i had the block converted to 1/2"
