I have a '88 LX with 5.0 that I recently installed a new fuel pump.

My question is concerning the lock ring and if it is tight enough.

The lock ring has raised bumps and was wondering if these bumps are supposed to be
under the bent tabs on the fuel tank. The tabs have a raised area that looks like the bumps
would fit under and lock the lock ring in place.

Right now, my lock ring is positioned so that the bumps are near the bent tabs.

Thanks for any answers/help ...............

It's been a little while since I changed my pump so I'm having a really hard time picturing what you're saying. Can you upload a picture?
What I did when I installed mine is just took a hammer and a punch and spun the ring til it stopped

That's pretty much the same thing I have done...

Use some silicone gasket sealer on the O ring when you open up the tank. Reusing the old O ring tends to make a leak that results in a gasoline stink when you fill the gas tank up. That's my current problem as a result of having replaced the fuel pump sometime ago.

Thanks for the help..............

Currently I do not have access to a camera to load a picture.

I am using the original lock ring for the fuel pump; around the outer edge, it has 3 raised bumps just before the edge of the
lock ring curves upward and comes to a sharp point.

I also have a replacement lock ring that does not have the raised bumps as original but has a stepped up area before curving upward to a sharp
point.

As I stated earlier, in using the orignial lock ring, the bumps are touching the 3 gas tank tabs and I can not turn the lock ring anymore unless
I use a lock ring tool.

If anyone has a close up picture of the lock ring installed correctly, I would appreciate it. Winter is just around the corner and this is my everyday
driver so I need to get the gas tank back on ASAP.

Again, thanks for the help...........
