short question: Can you remove the one legger guts out of a nine inch Ford diff, and put locker guts inside, or are the housings physically different, that would prevent this?

Yes you can swap like that. Its the carrier that is specific, not the housing.

Yes, you can re-use the iron housing, and even the ring and pinion you have now.

I have both powertrax and Aussie lockers in the front and rear of my s10. I love them. Though I will warn its definitely not going to be super smooth. You will definitely know you have a locker back there. And IMO the aussie is a smoother unit than the powertrax. It seems like the tolerances are a little tighter. It doesn't seem to buck nearly as much as my powertrax. My .02 cents

I want a detroit clutchless locker. I need to just man up and whip out the check book.

$325? Buy it. The above parts are for rebuilding an existing Traction-Lok. If you don't already have the T-Lok carrier, they are useless to you.

The Detroit Locker is hard-core, even Shelby customers complained about them, kinda harsh, made people think something was wrong. Excellent traction, though. You're looking at nearly $700 for the part, plus installation.

For the money, I like one of these. The thing about the traditional trac-lok for me, is the PITA to pull it out and install new clutches...

How often you really need to do that? I have over 100,000 miles on mine, still above torque limits.

I'm not sure how often they need rebuilt, but are you abusive with your take off's? Lots of rolling smoking burnouts? I guess I won't drive like I would have 20 years ago, but I still have a few burnies left in me!

I've run time trials and autocross with it. Not exactly kind on the street, either.

I just bought a detroit trutrack unit for my 8.8 thats going in my IRS suspension. Have you considered one of these units ?
