Long Tube Diffrences?

I have BBK long tubes , BBK matching O/R X Pipe and a mac Catback

My friends bullitt has BBK Long tubes, Mac PROCHAMBER and SLP LM2

My friends 96 GT has FLOWTECH longtubes and BBK X pipe (muffler shop made) and flowmaster 40's

In order to remove your transmission the RIGHT BBK header will have to be removed. I know this first hand. The flowtechs will allow the transmission to drop without removing them. However, his are about 6 months older than mine and are rusty and nasty looking. My CHROME BBK's look great, except where I bottom them out.

The flowtech slip joint leaks a little bit, not bad though. The BBK longtubes will not allow a maximum motorsports k member brace if your car is lowered. This brace must be spaced about an inch lower than normal, and will bottom out way too easily.

Either way you go, I highly recommend stage 8 locking header bolts. Look on ebay or summit.

I have them on my car and yes it makes the install/ removal more difficult but my headers dont leak at all. My friend bullitt leaks quite a bit, and my friend with the 96 GT used to leak and has had to be retightened quite a few times

Quality on parts can be hit or miss. The best thing you can do is choose a reputable brand and take your time and install them correctly.

And by the way, LTs, H pipe, and flows sounds AWESOME. I would kill for my old setup back, I miss the drone :(

Well the last thing I will say on the subject is that there is a "mods you regret" thread on SVTP and headers are the most popular item mentioned in that thread :shrug:

There are better ways to spend that kind of money... But it IS your money and it IS your car. Good luck I hope the headers work out for you :nice:

you know what i've told ya.. but i'll put in my 2 cents for all these guys.

The trans IS ABLE TO be removed with BOTH headers on in the case of BBK's.. i have done it 3 times now and it is NOT the easiest thing to do, but it IS possible.

Mac headers do NOT allow you to drop the tranny and even the HTS coated ones started rusting like a Beeatch after a year.

Kooks are AWESOME but they are expensive. The slip fit has a very small leak but nothing that can't be overcomed. The bad part... they dont have any flange on the collector so you have to have a prochamber, H pipe, X pipe.. whatever custom fit.. Which can be a good thing b/c you can have your current prochamber shortened and widened to fit these headers.

Hedman and flowpath i have no personal experience with but friends have told me the tubing is very thin and the coating is gone after 10 minutes of run time and rusting begins immediately there after, so i wouldn't waste the time on these.

of the BBk's i've installed. 2 went one w/o any hitches, the 3rd (which was getting installed on a 98 cobra) was a major PITA b/c the mounting flange to the head was much to large and didn't allow the header to be placed into position w/o grinding 1/8" of the corner of the flange off.
Mac's were ok to install, nothing really to odd, except that the steering shaft was extremely close and under the right conditions rubbed the header.

The kooks fit awesome, both sets w/ just a little PITA (pain in the ass) w/o any rubbing anywhere and no intereference w/ the K member brace.


that being said.. start racking your brain on what you want :D

Site is being slow, but at the end of page 4, I counted 4 people who regret it. Mainly because they paid for someone to install it for them (expensive), and not well enough (they leak). I've read that LTs do nothing for 03/04 Cobras, but for GTs the power we see is greatly needed. Not just peak power, but power throughout the ENTIRE powerband.

The kooks have a flange on the collector. I dont know if the PC will mate up with the headers or not, though.

I really dont understand people saying that modding a GT is useless...If its so useless why Am I running 14 sec@101 mph on an almost stock GT and people with full-bolt on can run mid to low 12? I always tought that much of the fun was making the car faster not having the fastest car....

Why would you say that modding a GT is useless? That does not even make sense. Lots of people mod their GT with mods that make sense and get great results in looks and performance. You need to talk to some of the people that do not have stock GTs before you say that modding the GT is useless dood...

Where are you getting your info from? That SVTP thread where out of 16 pages 1 person per page didn't like a header because they spent too much and they leak? It is widely known that Longtubes increase low and midrange power. Everytime I come on here, there is always some jibber that is completely wrong and defies what every other site, race shop and well respected and known engine builder says and recommends.

In both 4V's I have owned and installed Longtubes(BBK on my 99 and Flowtech on my 97), there has been a big gain in low and midrange power. I have yet to see a 4V owner say they lost low end power or torque from installing Longtubes and I been involved on these sites since 1999.

yes, your kooks SUCKED for install! but they are a bit diffrent :) LOL

im thinking im going to go with the BBK Longtubes and H... just so i dont have to worry about rust.

good choice.. BBK would of been my choice.. now you need to get rid of that H idea and get an X :).. ooorrr we can always modify that prochamber you have to fit the longtubes.

so when we installing these things?

Mac gets a bad rap here on stangnet. alot of other forums dont have issues with them. It is the herd mentality, once you hear it said once or twice everyone agrees without even having a clue.

My macs fit (even the steering column) without any rubbing and performed great.
