Leaf Springs Changed
The rubber bushings at the rear were a total bitch to get out,(prob been in for 38 years) they were stuck tight as hell, and I could not get much leverage to get them out,the rubber was so old that bits kept breaking off. They did eventually come out after whacking my forearm when my hand slipped LOL.(Big bump on my arm now!)
Anyway, they are both done now,and what a difference,no more bottoming out,the ride is firmer, and the rear raised by about 1 - 1.5 inches, shows how crappy the old springs were. Its easier to get in and out of the car too,now that it is a bit higher.
By the way,is there a way to tell if the springs were original to the car? They are covered in crud, but maybe there should be part numbers on them somewhere right?
LOL,thats very cynical of you, haha. But then, thats what I would say anyway, any excuse for more money. But yeah,I ordered the new shackles, bushings and u bolts, and the front mounting bolts too.i figured I may as well do the whole thing while I'm down there because the old ones loked frickin ancient !no leaf spring is going to come with the shackle bushings, only the front eye bushings because they have to be pressed in. you need to order a rear shackle kit or just the rear bushings. i think they do this so you can have a choice between your original bushings or new rubber, poly, del-alum or whatever. or just so they can charge you more money.
