I have a 1989 LX 5.0.. it is stock... i love it honestly but i want to start hooking it up.. i want to try to keep the engine naturally aspirated now cause i have a small budget... the problem is that the car is automatic.. it was a gift so i have nothing to complain about.. any ideas are helpful.. especially parts, brand names, and estimated prices... my goal is 12;s if i get into the 11s i will love u all... and im not afraid to run some slicks because i know that will help alot..thank you and have a good day

Most sportsman class drag cars are automatic.
Gears are the number one mod along with the 10 minute tune up. Slicks are a gauranteed et lowering tool.

Get some ideas, do a search and you will learn a bunch!

Watch my vid and yes my car is an auto.

First of all, be sure it's running at 100%. Make sure all filters are not old, induction and exaust is clean, good plugs, fluids are fresh and clean, ect. Check for codes just to be sure the computer is clear, a clear brain so to speak.

Auto... lots of potential, but like it sits, stock aod(e), yuk, no way. It might just bog with slicks, happened with a buddy's car. Put in a gear, 4.10 minimal, and if your feelin' balzy, 4.30 and rebuild the traction-loc. Then apply the slicks. Get a good tranny cooler (B&M Supercooler or equivelent) and put in a 2800-3200 stall speed converter. A shift kit would be nice but how about a manual valve body? Maby look into the price of a soft parts rebuild on the tranny. Maby it's not slipping, but if it's original, your taking chances. Rebuilding now before the bands slip and glaze the drums is cheaper now, but it's not nessasary. That's just my opinion....

Definatly get some gears with the auto I would say at least 4.10s , you also should get a 3000+ torque converter and a tranny cooler. You can also get a manual valve body but thats up to you...but the converted, gears, and cooler are most important. You could also go with the trick flow street heat engine kit from summitt. It is an h/c/i kit and is proven to give an average of around 305rwhp, the kit runs for about $2,000 and is available through summitt. You should also do some suspension work if you want the best possible time n/a...shocks, struts, control arms, maybe 31 spline axles if your gonna be running slicks... that is a pretty good start, hopefully that was helpful
