i am getting ready to convert my sd fox to MAF i am wondering what the difference between a 8LD computer and an A9P etc is? why is there like 20 different computers for those era stangs.
i just picked up an 8LD on ebay for $55 so i hope it will work in my fox
i got a real big cam and real big heads 570\270 Cam 2.1\ 1.6 heads
i am looking to go with like a 70 or so MAF and 24# injectors
will this make it run better that SD or did i just buy the wrong part?

thanks

I dont really know the answer, I know when I did my conversion I had to get a
A9L for my car, the are getting expensive and hard to find. ... I know either the auto computer wont work with a 5 speed, or the other way around... I am sure someone on here knows for sure... :-) Good luck..

You need any A9 computer, whether it be A9m, A9L or A9P, if you have a stick. I don't know which one is for auto, bu auto computerswork in 5 speed, not the other way around. I have an A9L I found in a JY for 35 bucks. You just gotta look

A9S -- 88-93 CA Mustangs
includes A9S, 8LD

i found this posting on DFWstangs,
is that saying that the 8ld is the same as an a9s
or its another version of the a9s or what exactly?

thanks again

All the following are mass air unless they say Speed Density

8LD - MANUAL 88 5.0L Mustang Speed Density
8LF - Auto 88 5.0L Mustang Speed Density
A9L - 89-93 5.0L Mustang 5-spd
A3M - 93 5.0L Mustang 5-spd
A3M1 - 93 5.0L Mustang 5-spd
X3Z - 93 5.0L Cobra 5-spd
A9P - 89-93 5.0L Mustang Auto
A9S - 88-93 5.0L Mustang California
C3W - 89-93 5.0L Mustang Auto
DA1 - 87 5.0L Mustang 5-spd Speed Density
J4J1 - 94-95 5.0L SVT Cobra 5-spd
T4M0 - 94-95 5.0L GT Vert 5-spd
U4P0 - 94-95 5.0L GT Auto
W4H0 - 94-95 5.0L GT
ZA0 - 95 Cobra R
D9S - Lincoln LSC

For best results use the MAF & MAF sensor from the same vehicle as the computer.

go with an A9L(came in 5 speeds) or an A9P(came in autos). you can run an A9P in a five speed car though; however you CAN'T run an A9L in an automatic. I put an A9P in my coupe which was a 5 speed car and it ran PERFECT. supposedly 5 speed cars actually run better with A9P's due to better programming, hence why i put one in my car. Don't know if it ran better than it would have if i got an A9L but it sure as hell ran GREAT!

The A9L will do just fine in an auto.

This seems to be an internet rumor, usually based on timing differences.
The timing differences are actually fairly minimal.

It may be slightly better to run an A9P in an auto, but an A9L will not cause a performance loss in an auto.
At least not that I have seen...

Any of the A9* computer (and probably the A3* as well) would work well.

EDIT:
Here is a thread with some of the timing differences...
