I have a 1980 mustang former 6cyl car that now has a 302 and c4. It used to have power steering by I switched to a manual rack from my 79 4cyl parts car. The steering in the 79 was always good but in the 80 it seems to bind turning left and seems to have too much effort. The tires on the 79 are
195-75-14's and on the 80 they are 225-60-14's. I don't think the tires would make that much of a difference. I swapped the complete rack with the tierod ends and the collar with the pinch bolt hole in it but left the plastic discs in place that go between the intermediate shaft and the pinch bolt collar. Any help is appreciated. :nice: :canada:

How severe is the binding?Does it bind continuously or just when the wheels are fully turned left?I swapped a manual rack into my 86 and I have bigger tires than you do and I have no problems so you can rule out the tires as the cause.Maybe raise the front end and get someone to turn the steering wheel and you can listen for noises that would indicate a problem.
