Hi, greetings from Finland. I am thinking about converting from 4 speed to automatic. The engine is a 302. What do i need to know? Which is in your opinion is the best transmission? C4,C6,AOD?

The C4 is an excellent transmission, and would be what the car came with. The C6 would be overkill, extremely strong, but increased parasitic drag will cost you some power. The AOD is a later trans, of course, but adapters are available, and you will gain overdrive for highway economy.

The auto trans oil cooler was in the bottom of the radiator. If yours is an original manual trans radiator, it won't have one, but all replacements do.

The manual pedal is the same, except not as wide.

You'll need the kickdown parts, including the pedal with arm, shifter, shift rod, and neutral safety switch and wiring.

Save all the part you remove. If you sell the car, or change your mind someday, you'll need all that stuff.

First off, you need your head examined. The Toploader you have now is 10 times stronger than a C-4. It'll get better fuel mileage too. It'll out last the C-4 by decades.
