I have a 90gt 5spd I got about 8 months ago and it has always felt a little weak on the upper rpms almost like clutch slippage but never smelled clutch, more recently I'm thinking maybe it's something to do with the mass air meter setup on the car. It has a 70mm ford housing but what it came off of I don't know but the sensor on it is apparently an aftermarket replacement because there isn't any thing wrote on it but air flow and an arrow. So here's the part I can't figure out. I've tried putting a stock 55mm unit on it with 3 different F1ZF-12B79-AA AFH55-03B sensors. 2 of those sensors were questionable as far as whether they were good sensors or not. But 1of them was known good because I took it out of my mom's 93 tbird 5.0. Every F1ZFxxx...sensor makes the check engine light come on as soon as the motor starts and runs for about 2seconds. I pulled the computer to make sure it didn't have any tuning chips or anything plugged into the port on the back of it but it is still factory sealed so i don't know. Am I supposed to be using the E9Zxxxx numbered sensor? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated guys.

Have you checked for codes? Codes can be present without the cel on. There are instruction at the top of the main tech page. There is a lot of good info in the tech/how to threads.

I didn't check the codes I just shut the motor off once the check engine light comes on. The check engine light doesn't come on with the 70mm mass air meter and mystery sensor.

Just because the check engine light is not on does not mean you don't have a problem

I'd pull the codes and see what's stored.

In theory, the 55mm MAF sensors should work fine.

I'll drive it a little bit and see if it stores any codes

Ford 4-pin MAF sensors are all the same. no matter what the part number. If it has no Ford markings, anything is possible; probably an adapter harness is being used which is why the Ford sensors light the CEL.
You'll have to provide pics of what you have.

Can you show proof for that statement?

I agree that pics might help here.

The part number he posted is for a 55mm housing

I'll try to get a couple of pics of the " mystery sensor".

It doesn't have any kind of aftermarket adapter harness on it, it's the factory plug for the mass air sensor.

The 70mm Ford housing requires the use of an F2VF sensor. Using a 55mm sensor on a 70mm housing is going to confuse the ecu, and trigger the CEL.
Clear the memory, put the original sensor back in, and see what codes come up.

What injectors do you have?
What ecu do you have?

Pics of the sensor and housing would be nice, just to confirm what you have.

The car runs with no CEL with the 70mm housing and mystery sensor. When I try a stock 55mm housing with a stock F1ZFxxx...sensor is when the CEL comes on. Running stock 19# injectors and a factory sealed A9L ecu.

The pN for the 55mm sensors you tried is:

F1ZF-12B79-AA
AFH55-03B

The "55" in the second portion means that the sensor is designed to work with the 55mm housing. Sounds like the MAF was replaced at some point with a parts store aftermarket on the 93 t bird.

Question is why the two 55mm F1 sensors aren't working, although you said yourself they were iffy.

You keep say'n your not getting a cel with this mystery sensor and we keep asking you to check for codes, try to get us a pic of that maf and check for codes, other than that we are just guessing.
If the cel came on then there will be a stored code
