Massachusetts Inspection Tough on Noise Levels

I was just at the inspection station getting my contour done it's the same garage that does all my cars and did teh mustang as well. He was telling me that he just got back from the meeting last week with the state they had for inspectors. They will only be doing safety inspections on OBD 1 cars 1995 and older no more emission testing no dyno & no tail pipe

, although they can still do a check for cats and smog what that has to do with safety, but like he said doubt anyone will take the time becuase if the car passes safety no one was clear on if they could fail for no cats LOL freaken state.

next drop in that carbed 347 stroker or a loppy cam and a set of heads boys no more sniffers

Its all about the benjamins!!!!!!!!! They could give a crap about the noise level, pollution or whatever, Its about raising $$$ for the state Govt.... It seems MA is getting to ba like the Nazi state of Cali with all there laws, rules and reg's about smog, blah, blah....

I just had my car inspected. It's pretty loud but they didn't care. If anything the mechanics were all asking me questions about the car....how fast i've gone, how many HP, where did i get the wheels (OEM bullitt wheels)

I heard about the no emmissions testing for OBD1 and older cars. It's because the state ended it's contract with the manufacturer of the dynos so they are doing away with it. DOn't hold your breath that this is how it will stay. The state is looking into setting up dyno facilities at specified locations...so if your OBD-II car fails or you have an preOBDII car you'll have to go to one of these facilities instead.

Just for the meantine...dyno testing is done

"getting to be" Years gone by, dude. You should see the safety laws too. If you're out of windshielf washer fluid, you'll FAIL because you can't prove your squirters are operable. No front plate = fail too. I even failed recently w/my G35 because the clear, plastic cover to one tail light bulb was missing. The bulb still lit up and the plate was perfectly visible at night, but that doesn't matter.

I'm glad you found an inspection station that was able to pass it.

It's too bad about the "authority figures" in our state government that waste their time with this sh**t. Maybe they should concentrate on more important matters and pass laws that the "people" want?

My car is LOUD for a street car. It has Mac 1-3/4" longtube headers, Mac off-road 2.5" H-Pipe and a Mac 2.5" catback system. Like I said, it's loud! However, I get comments all the time on how good it sounds. I not only like it myself, I love it!

Last year, I drove to the inspection station and I straight out asked the guy, "Is this going to pass or not? I don't want to waste your time or mine." He replied, "Pull it in and don't bring it up past idle. I don't want to hear it." Ten minutes later I was on my way - with my new inspection sticker. I went back this past June and he told me to pull it in before I even got out of it. Again, I got my sticker.

I think it's totally B.S. that the state governement can pass a law or put pressure on the cops to crack down, yet they can't come up with parameters for the law to be met. Only in Massachusetts.........

As a MA. native I know people who have failed safety for having visible rust on the body of the vehicle. Gotta love the salt back east. My CA. 91 LX is cleaner than my 01 GT from MA.

Wow, and i thought New York was bad, aftre reading this thread, i guess not regarding inspection, everything sucks ass. except conveinence..... I know NJ is a ballbreaker with inspection...

The "Safety Laws" are ridiculous ! My dad's '04 GT passed all the tests but it got failed because he had a small "Mustang club of America" in the very bottom corner of the windshield on the passenger side where it is completely out of eye-sight and hard to see from the inside but it's still a "Safety Hazard"

IL is looking better and better.

You have to remember that 99% of those workers are disgruntled and underpaid nerds that got picked on in high school.

Back in 99 I had to take my 91 GT in for emissions and this guy comes over and sits on my front fender. I went you know what on the guy and he almost fell over.

No one has the right to come sit on my Mustang. The guy got out the paper floor mats, plastic seat and steering wheel covers.

Sounds like Mass is ready for another tea party.

I do agree and understand that states need to do vehicle inspection for safety, such as brakes, fuel, hoses and improtant stuff. So that your vehicle doesnt cause a safety hazard to other drives and such. But not for the minor petty bull****, like a small sticker on the front windsheild-Its insane!!!
Plus-Inspection should be completely FREE with no fines. Then you would see how fast many, cars would pass because there is no penalty or fine to pay the govt. Another words inspections would truly help the public and people not penalize them. Our Govt has it backwards, One huge messsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!

I love when i see the state troopers on the side of the road pulling people over for inspection stickers. They do it all the time.

I can see pulling over some rust-box clunker with electrical probs bellowing smolke out, but lets be honest here. The majority of cars on the road are pretty new. Once in a while they might have a bulb out here and there, but there is no reason to be pulling people over in 1-2 year old cars and handing out tickets because they are 6 days late getting an inspection.

But i do agree inspections should take place. Most of us here take care of out cars. We are on top of things and never let mechanical probs go too long.

But some people drive until their brakes look like this and I DON't Want this person behind me

Or what about the person driving on tires like this? Do you want them behind you?

Totally agree hahahahah Great pic's. nothing better than a pic for an example. It reminds me of that insurance commercial, with the chick putting make up on while driving to work, These people are out there. Very sad, But true.

I wonder if they are going to do a visual inspection for cats.
I looking into a new exhaust system and would hate to fail if I got a off road H or X pipe, and then have to buy one with cats to pass.
That would be about $600.00 in H or X pipes!

You need cats period. There will never be a day where it's legal to remove pollution control equipment from a vehicle so equipped. Even if your state doesn't do the sniffer...you need cats period

I'm from the Cape but statoned in Maryland. I've brought my stang home once and kinda got dirty looks from the cops. I harldy ever see any muscle type cars on the Cape, my mom said if they are out the cops are always busting thier asses for exhaust noises. Then again it is the Cape, nothing but spoiled rotten kids kids in Lexus's, BMWs and what not
