Max RWHP on stock shortblock

i think rpm has alot to do with how long they last. i have a friend that is make around 600hp at the wheels with a 306 and a turbo. the car ran 9.90's, and he drives it on the street all the time, it has been together for years .but he keeps the rpm to under 6k that helps the poor old block out a bunch.

dont detonate, keep the rpms down

I don't think its so much RPM that will crack a block, its piston speed. Which is directly related to RPM, but there are differences. A big bore short stroke engine will have a higher piston speed per RPM then the opposite... I think the limit on a stocker would be 4000ish FPM. You have to be careful setting RPM limits on anything. I would take a 302 up to 8 grand but a 347 wouldn't see anything north of 7000....

In terms of detonation... I love all these threads where peeps go "Stock blocks suck!! I ran my HCI Paxton with stock fuel and spark tables and it cracked at only 400rw on the dyno! WTF???" I'm sure the car loved that 18-1 A/F with 32 degrees of spark advance too....

that question is like asking how much wood could a wood chuck, chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood. no one knows exactly nor will we ever. everymotor is diffrent

lock it up

a woodchuck could chuck all the wood a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood

and im with you on the lock it up i see these threads almost everyweek

Hmmmmmm......100 shot of n2o, 3 different superchargers and now a 70mm turbo @ 18psi with n2o and methanol. All on 1 stock block and 174K. Hgs and ARP head bolts are the only thing I've replaced. Stock oil pump and never even dropped the oil pan once. Never opened the motor up past the heads and lower intake. Anyone that knows me and has seen me drive my car will say I beat the chit out of it everytime I pull it out.

I don't care what anyone says about this 5.0 block or crappy pistons my times are good enough for me. You never know what will happen until you try. If my motor blows and I've said it a ton of times...I will just put in another $300 used one I have here and keep on going. :nice:

The last dyno I had was with the blower and I was running 11.80's. I ran 12.1 @ FFW last year @ 119mph with a T-66. My car hasn't seen a dyno yet but that was on pure boost, no methanol or n2o. I was also holding back b/c I had no roll cage. If I'm in the 11's on a stock motor I don't need to know my RWHP on the dyno. :D

Can i change it up a bit?

What do you think that a ford production block but with deck line bored, balanced, forged pistions, rods, cast crank, girdle and good oil/water pumps can handle?

i know every engine is different blah blah blah.

opinions anyone?

Just do what you want to the car and have it tuned well. Just know that whatever you do the engine may blow. We all know this is a possibility and I just figure that if and when it happens I will just deal with it. Thats what just happens when you start to modify.
