Max tire on stock wheel?

So what is the widest tire my wheel can hold? I dont know the width but they are the stock 96 Cobra 17" wheel. Can it hold a 275/40/17?

Well Ford put 255/45/17's on the 94-95 Cobras..but then went to a 245 from 96+ on thre 17x8's


A 17x8 will hold a 275/40/17, but it will bulge and handling may suffer due to the sidewalls rolling over in turns

Yes, pretty sure 275 is the widest you can go. But i would only put those in the rear and not the front.

that is teh truth about going with a 275/40/17

So you can see what it looks like mounted on, here are a few pics of my stock 17x8 rims with Nitto DRs in 270/40/17 size in the rear with the stock goodyear in 245/45s on the front. Nittos supposedly run a little narrow compared to the rest and IMO, are acceptable for the rears only. Fronts on a 17x8, I personally wouldn't go wider than 255/45/17s.
