me and my dad's new project

well me and my dad recently got a 1968 ice blue mustang coupe for free, my dad knows ALOT about cars and hes teaching me along the way, i like to think im a fast learner.

anyways...the reason we got it for free is because it wasnt exactly in the best condition. The worst part is mainly the body, alot of rust has eaten away the body and such. The A-Pillar is evidently the most affected by this..but the A-Pillar is also a very vital part to the car, we took it to a guy and showed it to him and he said we could either cut it at the top and bottom of the A-Pillar and get it done professionally, or get a whole new roof.

I was just wondering if anyone else had any other suggestions, obviously the whole new rof will have a nicer result, but will be alot more money.

any help would be appreciated.

thanx guys/gals.

my drip rails were so bad that i chopped them off and left it that way. welded up, they look great.

since you got the car for free, go and buy a digital camera to show us the car and so we can help you out with repairs.

build a custom one off... chop off the top and put a late model stang roof on it or like a fox hatchback, something different... I'd do it if my roof was fubar'd, oh yea and if I was rich....

You might have better luck with a donor rolling shell and use the good stuff from your car on it. If the A piller is shot, its a good bet that there are other, bigger problems ahead.

If you decide to get the work done be sure to correctly support the door frames. Once you cut those pillars loose, your car will probably fold in half. The roof, including pillars, is a major part of the structural support.
