Okay, so the mechanic took a look at the gears today. Took the entire thing apart and nothing looked bad. Oil was clean, Gears had good wear pattern, bearings weren't flattened, etc. He reshimmed the whole thing and reset the pinion and it still whined.
Anyway, I paid him for the labor of taking the whole thing apart and giving his opinion on it. Well, he calls me back and offers to do a full 4.10 swap with new bearings for $250 or 3.73s with new bearings for $225. I'm deff going to do it as I felt like I got robbed for the labor that got me...well, nothing.
Now the question is should I stay with 3.73s or go to 4.10s? On the highway cruising at 75-80, the 3.73s would yell at me. How much of a diff is 4.10s? Gas mileage isn't too much of an issue as I currently get 13mpg so whatever.
Anyone who's gone from 3.73s to 4.10s or vice versa please chime in with your experience/opinions.
