Just got my MGW shifter in the mail today, and I plan on installing it this weekend. I watched the installation video, and it said you can adjust that screw up to 12 turns to adjust the length of your throw. I was just curious what the current owners have the turns set at, and how it's working out for you. Also, any tips or anything about install and use are appreciated.

That video is not up to date as far as the turns go. Max = 10. I have mine at 5 with the shaft as low as it goes. Great shifter - you'll be very happy with it.

I have mine at 5 turns with factory height, much easier for me to power shift.

Thanks for that heads up...I'll be sure and watch the video that they sent to see if there are any changes.

I've got mine set at 8 with it sitting pretty low. I had to cut off part of the "shaft" to allow this knob fit correctly for me.

Mine is at 8 turns with shifter at the stock height and nearly stock location. Thinking about changing it to 5 turns and see if I like it better.

As far as the installation goes be careul when working with the sound deadener. It gets very sharp edges when you cut it. I have a bunch of dried blood on the bottom of my car from this. Didn't even feel my hands getting cut.

Also be sure put the deadener on the E-brake like the video shows. I didn't and sure enough I needed to. Put it away for the winter before I could do the fix.

The e-brake fix made a difference in my car. I didn't use the dynomat for the shifter - it's a little noisier but I like the sound. Makes the car sound more muscular but not loud to the point of being annoying.

+1 ... I cut my hand wide open on it when doing my MGW. My buddy who was underneath the car was like "Are you bleeding?". I had no idea what he was talking about. Next thing I hear "Bud you're bleeding, it's about to drip all over me". I couldn't believe how clean and unpainful of a cut Dynamat makes. I know why guys wear some type of glove now.

The E-Brake fix made a big difference for me, too. I used the Dynamat and the heat/sound pad but removed that stock rubber boot. It was getting in the way of the shift knob shaft since I've got it so low. No problems with noise or heat without it. I didn't even notice any more of either.

I had mine set at 7 turns, and after about 6 months it broke while i was driving( the threads on the adjuster stripped out and cracked), i switched to a Pro 5.0 supersport shifter after that and no problems for a year.

Did you pursue the problem with MGW?

I'd be interested to know that too. I've never heard of any problems with MGW shifter failure.

So, if the stock shifter has no sound deadening at all, should I consider that to be "loud" if I install an aftermarket shifter (MGW?) in the car?

What is the source of all the "noise" people are talking about with shifters?

Using the dynamat with the install makes some of the road noise go away in the interior. The "noise" is actually the E-brake handle. The 2 pieces of plastice tend to rattle under hard acceleration (at least it does in my car) but usually isn't noticed until you put the new shifter in with the dynamat. I didn't think mine had the rattle so I didn't bother taking it apart and doing MGW's fix for it. Sure enough the first time I took it out I heard the rattle. Hope that helps.

I believe there is additional noise, separate from the e-brake, that comes from the trans. The MGW has more of a direct connection with the tranny than the stock one and, as a result, is more noisy than the factory shifter which is more isolated.

Possibly but I haven't noticed it. I don't doubt it though.

No, there is a disclaimer about the adjuster, like if you turn out too many times or over torque the bolts that hold the transmission linkage to the shifter it can break, plus i didnt care for the mgw that much its a well made shifter but too sloppy and quiet for my taste, so i went ahead and went got a different shifter the 5.o is def more firm and notchy which i like.

fair enough - shifters are certainly a personal taste. I currently have a Hurst and like it but will be changing out the clutch and tranny for a McLeod Street Twin and TR6060 in the next few weeks. The swap kit i bought comes with the FRPP s/t for the six speed. We'll see how it is.

Thanks for all of the tips guys. I'll probably set the adjustment to five, as that seems to be the magic number. Also, I'll definitely do the e-brake fix, and watch my hands around the ultra-sharp sound dampener.

Gonna install this afternoon probably, I'll let you know how it goes.
