Hi all, I suspect that I have a blown headgasket after doing a burnout that tapped 6k rpm for a second. Got the milkshake oil and the tapping under the hood. I've changed headgaskets before, but I've heard the 99 GT is quite different from an average GM engine, so I don't want to mess up. Can anyone tell me how much this will cost about? I was also thinking of selling it as is to a friend of mine, and buying an 05 or 06 because of the interior size.

if YOU do the work .... 115 for the gaskets and new headbolts, 50 for new fluids and another 60-75 or so if you want to replace your timing and valve cover gaskets.

If you have it done @ the dealership....2500!!!! Thats what they quoted me (before they knew I had long tubes). If you have stock exhaust manifolds, Its really not that challanging...

...and do it soon. Drive around like that for too long and you'll be putting bearings in the engine too.

If the tapping showed up after the burnout then a headgasket is probably not the only thing wrong with that motor.

Might want to drop the pan and check the rod bearings...

I had a ticking one time when I was doing a stupid burnout.... It was just the lifters, and it went away after a couple days....

Are you sure you have milkshake?

Don't come to any conclusions just yet. You need to do a leak down test to get the final results. Is there any white smoke coming from the exhaust? Is the car burning coolant?
