MM FLSFC Questions

Just a few questions concerning these.

- Bare vs. Black Powdercoated: Is it worth the $30 extra?
- Install price? I was told anywhere from $100-200. Is this accurate?
- Install Time: How long will it take a shop to weld these on?
- FInally: Are they really worth it? I think I hate the flex on my vert and these will help stiffen up the ride a bit. But, will it make the ride HARSHER per say?

I would have paid 30 not to have to spray paint mine. I had a buddy at an exhaust shop weld them up and I gave him 75. Paying 100-150 dollars doesnt seem too far fetched. Mine took about an hour, maybe a little longer for install. Just make sure you clean and respray any areas where bare metal is showing afterward. The shop will have to grind off the powdercoat/paint around the surfaces to be welded. The ride will actually improve noticably. Not harsh but definitely more solid. I have a coupe so the difference will be even better on a vert. No regrets about using the mm flsfc.

^^ Thanks for your input. I just need to find a reputable shop to do the job. Local Mineke probably won't do a reputable job...but maybe I'm wrong.

1. I choose powdercoat, all i did was grind off the where it was welded at, then i didn't need to spray the entire thing
2. Depending where you go, when it comes to welding higher the price, better the quality
3. 1-2 hours, maybe hour for prep, they should clean off where they are going to weld first
4. Yes they are worth it, slightly harsher but you won't notice it after a few days

1. I bought mine bare and taped off where the welds were going to be, then i primed and spray painted them. After they're welded on, then just touch up the places you didn't paint.
2. I paid $75 at a very good shop.
3. About one hour but it depends if the installer has done them before.
4. I would do them again because i can feel the difference. If your car has some rattles going over bumps, it will help.

1. I got bare, coated them twice myself with rustoleum for 5 bux, gave the extra to the welder so he could cover the grinded spots when done.
2. I paid 225.. that seems high to some people, but when i look at them there is alot of welding to be done (all the gussets), and i know for mine at least, the welds are perfect.
3. Took them 4 hours (ramps slowed it down a bit im sure)
4. Not really, for 370 dollars. If you can find a REPUTABLE shop with a lift that raises it on the tires, than go for it. Im sure the install price for them would be alot less. I just didnt have any, and im not letting meineke or any of the chain places ever touch my car.

Thanks for all the replies guys! Sounds like this is a really good mod and will help stiffen her up. Omg, going over bumps it feels like the entire car is flexing and it rattles everything. It's so not cool.

First real mod i did to my vert, well after catback and totally worth it.
I wouldn't waste the money on the powder coating (never see them) unless you don't want to waste the time painting them up yourself with $5 of spray paint.
$100-150 seems to be the going rate these days for subs installed.

waste to paint them? they would rust to crap if u didnt.. The MM directions says you MUST coat them with something.. thats with the bare ones..

Do yourself a favor and get the PC ones. Don't listen to what anyone else says, the spray paint will never adhere as well as the PC will.

You will only grind off small areas where the weld goes, and of course you will have to spray paint there, but the rest of the SFC will be protected by the PC process.

Well worth the small difference in price to me.

Just got mine put on last weekend. A friend with a business/nice ass garage found a welder to do a 'group install'. We had 3 cars that we put on his lift and the welder did all three in a row.
-The welder was top notch (welds every day for a living) and we each paid $130. I think it took him around 1.5-2 hrs to do each car. That includes grinding on all chassis weld points.
-I got the bare FLSFC's and just primed and painted them black after the install, which was simple
-I also have a vert and even though I haven't really taken the car on super twisty roads, I can tell just on off ramps on the highway that the body roll is less. Of course, I also put on an IRS 2 weeks ago, so that might have me biased a bit...

I was told by my mechanic to get the powdercoated one's as they will hold up to rust much better (i guess especially here in NJ). He's going to do my MM FLSFC and Bassani X pipe for $180. Not a bad price I'd say

I'd do the X-pipe myself, but I'm frightened of the passenger header bolt. lol So I'll pay someone $40 to do it for me

X-pipe install is child's play, just pwn it with some PB blaster and air tools But that's a VERY good price. Around here, it usually costs around $120 for a midpipe install.

Yea, I don't have air tools and don't feel like stripping that passenger nut. I'll do this one the easy way. The supercharger install was "child's play" too

Definitely get it for your vert. DEFINITELY. Really stiffens up the car in a good way. Doesnt make the ride harsher at all, just gets rid of creaks and makes things feel more solid on rough roads. Money well spent on a vert.

I'm with San on this. Powdercoating FTW.

Ok, I didn't read all the replies, just responding to your post. I got the bare steel, paid $100 for the install (Kasper's Korner, again), and I think I was at the shop for less than an hour, if I remember correctly, and I would absolutely do it again.
