I love Fox Body Mustangs........
But I always thought the shifter in them looked kind of Sissy (The AOD anyway).
I have been working on this car on and off for 4 years. Mostly off because of work and family and what not. Here lately I have regained my interest in the car and made some good progress.
After about 5 hours of cutting, welding and fabrication this is the almost finished product. I still have to disassemble it, clean it, Paint the internals, make a backing with the shift letters and put rubber skirts in on the sides of the shifter slot so you can't see underneath the top plate.
Other Side:
You can see that I used the stock trim pieces as well as the stock upper cover. Everything else is cougar. There is going to be a slight issue with maybe hitting Knuckles on the bezel below the climate control but I believe that I am going to bend the shifter bar back about 15 degrees or so. Also the pic shows a gap at the bottom of the leather looking shifter rod trim....This is not visible when the shifter is all the way on. I placed it on there just for the picture without pressing it all the way back down.
I think that looks tons better. Another reason that I did this is because the AOD that I have built is from a 93 Cougar. They have a very different linkage and kickdown. I didn't want to go disassembling a perfectly good transmission.
What do you think?
