Just sold my GT40's while my car is down. Figger it is a good time to invest in a different setup.

Anyway, I am trying to figger out what heads to get, here are my choices:

AFR 165's that have been upgraded a little:

Viton Seals
Upgrade Springs (.750 lift)
Ported and Polished
Have NOT been Shaved or Milled!
Studs for Roller Rockers
Have about 150 miles on them, no 1/4 mile passes. (I can get these for 1000)

or s set of TFS Twisted WEdges. I also don't know what intake, yet. I currently have a cobra, but am thinking of getting a Typhoon (if my cobra sells).

What do y'all think?

Get the AFR's if they are 1000, cause you would be paying to upgrade the TFS heads anyway. You might as well get it done right off the bat. Keep your cobra intake as the difference is marginal between it and the Typhoon. Spend the money I saved you on dyno tuning.

That is an awfully stout spring package...what stage port did they get? They almost might be a bit aggressive for your car depending on what you want to get...

I love my AFR's though

stock vs stock...afr 165 and TW's are virtually the same...Have those AFR's been ported even more after they were CNC'd? BTW: most AFR's already come for the stud mount rockers...at this point if you can get them for a $1000 get them...I like mine but to say if they are better than TW's...well its impossible to tell since they are so close in performance...

Yeah, the AFR's have had another $400 worth of port work done to them. I am going to get the flow numbers of the heads soon. The guy who ported them works closely with Fox Lake (he is good friends with the owner Ron Robart). Fox Lake does a lot of his machine work, actually.

Anyway, the heads were set up by Ed Curtis (supposedly) and upgraded with the springs. According to the present owner of the heads, Ed just wanted to make sure that he could use whatever cam he wanted without ever having to worry about the springs. Right now, he is using the TF Stage II cam.

The heads were ported in order to work well with a 331 combo that is carb'd.

Yeah, the AFR's are $1000. He bought them for 1500 and put another 400 into the port work. I am definitely getting a deal.

Yeah I believe the $400 dollar job is the stage 1 port (P1)...so they should be just fine... Assuming it still has the same valves in them for clearance (1.9 intake/1.6 exhaust)...did the previous owner clear the stock bottom end (pistons) with the TFS2 cam?

They are close in peak numbers, which only matters on a dyno. Don't quote me 'cause I'm really scratching deep in my memory here, but I believe that out of the box the AFR's had far more area under the curve, producing a much higher power average, which is what you want on the street. They were more money, but made so much more average power that $ per HP they ended up being cheaper.

I second the vote to keep your Cobra topsucker too. I have the Typhoon, and it's a great intake for the money, but not worth RE-upgrading for with this combination. It really only shines over the cobra at the track, and then only if you're pushing 400+ to the ground and shifting high. On the street, no advantage, less mileage and less low end. And lastly- if you are crazy enough to go with TW's after all this, then I want the phone number because AFR165's ported at Fox Lake and set up by Ed Curtis for a grand is something I can't pass up!

The AFRs sounds like the better choice for the money. That spring sounds very stiff, and it is unlike Ed just to send "a spring" so you can run what ever cam his small spring package will take a Stage II cam with out any issues at all.

Who runs a .750 lift cam on a AFR165.....think about it.

yeah, seems like I will pick these AFR's up. I was just looking at all of my options. Thanks all.

Gonna keep the intake and have it ported, too.
