I hear people talking about them but what makes a Mach One different than the rest...and again what years were a mustang II mach One available? Any pics? I'm confuuuuuuuussssed! :(

Jon, the Mach 1 is just a body package, like the Cobra II. However, there are things about the Mach 1, that actually make it "more special" in a way, than even a Cobra II. The Mach 1 has it's own body code, whereas the Cobra were just 2+2s. You could make a 2+2 into a Cobra and if you removed the buck tag, nobody could ever dispute it. But the Mach 1 having it's own body code, could never be argued if it was true. Also, the Mach 1 came standard with the V6, where all the other models, including the Cobra, had the 4 cylinder as the standard motor (well aside from the King Cobras). I don't know ALL the attributes on the Mach 1, but the main things were the black rocker paint job, Mach 1 badging, and a host of "standard" trim stuff that was optional on all other cars.

And what exactly are you laughing at, Mr. know-it-all?

Sal, I was going to ask that same question!!! :nonono:

anyway, i had a guy come up to me in a show a few weeks ago and I felt like a dumass because I didnt' know what to say about the Mach One but is it true it had better sway bars line cobraii74 says so i know wht the fu** I am talking about? thanks for the info. i need to find a pic now. :(

Basically, the Mach came with a handling package as standard, the same package was optional on other models except the King where it was standard there also.

Yes, it has it's own code, top line of the buck, 69R. Standard hatch models have 69F.

First year of production the Mach came standard with a limited slip differential. After that it was an option.

That's all I remember off the top of my head.

damn, i wouldn't mind having an original limited slip from the factory...was that in 74 only????? was it an 8 or something else? :( was the factory limited slip a 2:79 or a 3:00????

were the mach ones still avaiable from 74 thru 78???? :bang:

Jon, this is what's listed on the .net site (you know, the site that actually has usefull information):

"The Mach 1 came with the larger engine, the 2.8L V-6, and a unique lower bodyside treatment with Mach 1 lettering. However, the Rallye package was required to give the Mach 1 the maximum performance potential. The package consisted of the Traction-Lok differential, CR70x13 wide oval radial B/WL tires, extra cooling package, digital quartz clock, the Competition Suspension(heavy-duty front and rear springs, rear stabilizer bar and adjustable shocks), outside color-keyed remote control mirrors, leather-wrapped steering wheel and styled steel wheels/trim rings."

References should be accurate.

Problem with your reference is it doesn't draw distinctions between years. What I can see what is posted int he above reference would apply, in total, to only the '74 Mach.

It doesn't much apply to my '78 Mach which was virtually factory when I got it.

What's the value of a reference if it's not accurate?

Here's the buck off of my 78, the Scanner's not plugged in so as close as it gets right now.

228710 F 69R 0 703
9D AC D
ST CR DRW
V8 FDS
It has the heavy swaybars front and rear, leather wheel, but the interior was kind of mix and match when I got it- driver side dash bezel was woodgrain, coin tray and passenger side bezel was aluminum

Rockers are black as are the lower half of the front and rear bumpers, and the tail panel(around the the rear lights) is also black. The badging is just a decal that says Mach 1 in white outline letters on the lower part (in the black) of the front fender

Gives me more reason to get the new pics up on the site, so I can put up the one of the back for ya tmw.
