Got the motor bolted in. I had a but of trouble getting it to come together with the trans. Then I realized the trans was in gear. Put it in neutral so the splines could mesh and it went home. A strange thing happened with the clutch play. After bolting it up, at first there was a ton of free play in the pedal but after several depressions and releases of the pedal the slop went away. Any idea what might of caused that? Im thinking the clutch cable may have become partially dislocated at the fork while I was struggling to bring the engine and trans together and then it worked its way back into the proper position on the fork. The clutch feels good now and is holding and releasing as it should with no excess play. Here's a few pics of the action.

Thats up under the dash right? I'll have a look up there next time I get out there. Is it possible that could get out of position and then fix itself?

You'd have to pose that question to the other 5 speed users here, but that sounded like classic auto adjuster stuff happening there to me.

If you have the stock quadrant still in there I suggest changing it to an aluminum quadrant and a firewall adjuster. It sucks when the stock quadrant drops the pedal to the floor like a rock.....always at the worse time possible.

My son's convertible was originally a manual trans car but now it has an AOD. I removed the clutch pedal months ago since it was still dangling under there. I just went out to the garage and stuck my head under the dash of his car and there is an aluminum quadrent under there. I'll pull it out and use it on my LX. Now all I need is a firewall adjuster.

So far I've only lost one part in this process. I lost the little metal snap ring that holds on the harness plug for the low oil level sensor in the side of the oil pan. Instead of the snap ring I used a small dapple of RTV to hold the plug on. I gooped it in a small blob on the outer edge so I can cut it away for removal if needed.

I wundered what that clip I found by my chair leg was for, sorry tossed it on the work bench, lost forever.
