More wheel house confusion

I cut a small piece out of the rotted wheel housing to start on fitting the patch, still have a lot more to cut out. When I cut the piece out there was more metal under it, I thought the wheel house was two pieces spot welded at the centre flange? In the bottom picture it looks like it's a one piece deal, I'm pretty confused by this

I will also have to make a patch for the outer wheel house at the bottom, should that have a flange for the drop down panel to attach to?

Well I think I know the answer to my question, that double flange isn't attached, someone must have made up a one piece patch and welded it from underneath.

I haven't had this much fun since my last root canal

The wheel house is two pieces, inner and outer, roll-welded together.

That's what I thought, the bottom of mine is one piece from a previous shoddy patch I gather.

What is roll welded? I haven't heard that before.

It's kinda like spot welding, except the electrodes are rollers. The edges of gas tanks are done this way, too.

Thanks, you never cease to amaze me with your knowledge

I'm having all sorts of fun fitting the trunk piece, I've decided to do that first since it actually has the correct curve around the wheel house, the repop wheel house is way off so I'll have to work it to fit the trunk. Even the trunk piece needs a LOT of trimming to get it right around the back valance but the rest of it seems pretty good, so far.
