Is this thing a gimmick or does it really work? My guess was that if your rims or whatever is already polished, it would work well just to clean them, but if you've got some nasty rims or other aluminum is this thing going to do any good?

It actually works surprisingly well. I was just playin around and decided to try and polish a chunk of bare aluminum and I got it to damn near a mirror finish.

No kidding? Well hey if you would check out my CAI thread i just made....ya know the stock aluminum breather lids that the old carbed cars had? Do you think it'll work on that? I tried to polish it a few years back but only got it half assed looking. I'm just a little shy about plopping down 20 on something that looked kinda like a gimmick.

Well i just got it and tinkered a little and it looks pretty nice. I'm gonna have to hit it with some super fine sandpaper and then probably pull out the buffing wheel and compound to get out a lot of scratches but it should work great. I'm anxious to get my valve covers off and hit'em with it. I'll post pics when i get something done.

It works soooooooooooooooo good! Just make sure to keep it wet (with polishing compound or whatever you're using) especially with plastics, cause it will burn right through it! I did my dads headlights on his Foci, and it was like new headlights when I was done. Def. worth the money.
