Motor shuts down under boost

I have a 95 Cobra, stock motor. S-trim w/ FMU and the stock 24 lb. injectors with the inline pump Vortech supplied. The stock pulley, 3.3" I believe produces 5.5-6 psi and the car runs fine, feels rich to me. Sooo, a friend of mine loaned me a smaller pulley. I think its 2.75" give or take. I bolted it on, drove the car. It showed about 8.5 psi the ONE time it made a good pull. The rest of the time, it would get into boost and I think the computer was cutting the ignition. Motor shuts down, CEL flashes on for a second and as soon as you let out of it, it comes right back to normal. Like the computer intermittantly just cut ignition/fuel or both. Any ideas? I know people run 8-9 psi with no tune and an FMU without problems, and the 24 lb injectors SHOULD be alright up to that point. Could the FMU be increasing fuel pressure too much? Is the computer not understanding whats happening?
