a stock mustang with the factory 273 gears will do excellent on the highway. Fox mustangs are pretty light, at 3000 poundsish. On flat level ground on the highway, you'll only be spinning 16-1700 rpm's at 65mphs. The engines BARELY working at those low arpms, and 25+ mpg's is typical.
It's the street driving that KILLS your mpg. street driving will bring you down to the teen average.
IMO, fox mustangs get GREAT mileage, I'm more than happy with 15-19 average.
LOL, that's DOUBLE what my work truck gets...my work truck is an 06 2500 silverado with a 6.0 300 horse motor, and gets consistant 9-10 mpg's, and weighs in excess of 3 tons.
My other toy is a 78 bronco 4x4, weighing in at 5500 pounds easy, and if I get 10 mpg's I'll be lucky (new motor going in, I may see 10+)
regardless, with the 5.0's getting just shy of 20, that's worth the sacrafice over a ricer burner that gets 30, as you can't beat the fun factor.
