a stock mustang with the factory 273 gears will do excellent on the highway. Fox mustangs are pretty light, at 3000 poundsish. On flat level ground on the highway, you'll only be spinning 16-1700 rpm's at 65mphs. The engines BARELY working at those low arpms, and 25+ mpg's is typical.

It's the street driving that KILLS your mpg. street driving will bring you down to the teen average.

IMO, fox mustangs get GREAT mileage, I'm more than happy with 15-19 average.

LOL, that's DOUBLE what my work truck gets...my work truck is an 06 2500 silverado with a 6.0 300 horse motor, and gets consistant 9-10 mpg's, and weighs in excess of 3 tons.

My other toy is a 78 bronco 4x4, weighing in at 5500 pounds easy, and if I get 10 mpg's I'll be lucky (new motor going in, I may see 10+)

regardless, with the 5.0's getting just shy of 20, that's worth the sacrafice over a ricer burner that gets 30, as you can't beat the fun factor.

I've owned my car and daily driven it for over 20 years. I have several times achieved right at 30 MPG when the limit was 55 and the car was 100% stock. It can be done, but it is the exception, not the rule. I regularly got about 25 MPG highway stock with the higher 65 limits in Texas and 16-18 in Houston traffic, with and w/o AC. Now, with my 3.73 gears I get more like 15-16 and about 22-23 on the highway. I fill up every 200-220 miles with about 12-13 gallons. That is driving it a good bit, not really too hard, but not like a granny either!

Anyway.....

Since I've now got a working speedometer (thanks to Darkwriter77 ), mine was figured up yesterday at 19mpg.

...and that's with 3:73s.

With stock gears I have got 27mpg on the highway, 3.73's I got 25 on the trip to Carlisle just last week. 87ttopstang with a built 306, 40# injectors, 3.73's and a Vortec was getting 22-24 on the highway. Pretty nice for a car that puts 425hp to the rear tires!!!

Around town is much less, prolly around 16-18......but I never really check cause I dont care too much about it.

I'd plan on about 17 city and 20 or a little better highway. Best I ever knocked down was 23.

When I first got my Notch, it still had a 16-tooth speedo gear in with the 4.10's. My first tank or two, according to the trip odometer, said that I was getting something insane like 30 MPG, and I was like, "Ummm ... no."

Plugged in a 21-tooth speedo gear (I know, I need a 23-tooth for 4.10's, but it's all I had available at the time), and I've since recorded a SUPPOSED 24.5 MPG tank or two on road trips. However, being that my speedo is still reading high by about 10 MPH at around 65 MPH, it was probably more like 22 MPG in reality.

I average (if I had an accurate speedo) about 20 to 21 MPG, with 90% highway driving at 65 to 70 MPH with the windows down (no A/C in 100+* desert heat, hooahhhh!).

By comparison, my '94 TurdBird with a 4.6L, 4R70W auto, and 3700 lbs or so of total weight has thus far gotten a best of almost 27 MPG (same highway, windows rolled up and no A/C going), but I average about 24 MPG highway because I run the A/C about 50% of the time - basically, on the way to work, I use the A/C if it's over 95* outside, and then on the way back at night, I always just roll the windows down.

Sure, I could have held out until I found a Metro, Festiva, or Aspire that'd get around 40 MPG, but I just can't justify (yet) giving up the comforts of USEABLE air conditioning (turning on the A/C in a Metro pretty much eats up half of the total 65 horses you've got to begin with), comfy/quiet ride, acceleration (which you NEED on the Loop 202), and more than an oversized beer can for a chassis around me, in case some blind/deaf/dumb old fart decides to pull a U-turn in front of me again.

If your going to have a car parked at a college lot, get a beater!

Go get a ZX2 or Foci and let it get dinged to death.

ZX2 BABY!

31.0 mpg on your average 40-55 mph 2-lane roads

35.5 mpg when you throw in a little more highway driving, but still mostly those 2-laners.

It's got some get up and go too, I've already layed the smacketh down on a fart-piped civic and a body-kitted neon. Definitely more than enough to destroy most rice. All without a single mod and 14" wheel covers

5.0s do good on the highway, they are aerodynamic enough and get over 20 on the highway. around town ive gotten a best of 18, usually around 15, down to 13 if its a fun tank. 4 banger mustangs get worse mileage in most cases.

yeah, I agree. I typically get about 25 and that was racing anything including the wind. I beat on it like a red headed step child.
