As I was driving on the 5 freeway today, cruising along at 85, a BMW M3 came up behind me, pulled next to me and then easily pulled away. I gave chase, just for the hell of it, however I knew I couldn't catch him. We pushed to about 130 MPH before slowing down. The two of us ended getting off the freeway at the same exit, giving me the opportunity to exact some revenge. We pulled up to a light, and I was able to pull away from him off the line. These events got me thinking. How do you build a mustang so it is strong across the board, and can compete at the higher ends? I am happy with my 4.10s and my acceleration, but how do you build the car so that across the curve it performs well. Can it compete in the higher ends against cars like these. I am sure it can, but with what configuration?

Just some thoughts...

I would think that the only way to truely do that would be with some kind of veriable timing. Kinda like vtec only domestic, more expensive, and not as reliable. :nice: I feel dirty now. :nonono:

So on a more serious note, Definately gears, but if you go too low then you won't have much top end. 4V would be the way to go and you would definately need a power adder. You would probably want a forged bottom end. A kenny bell sounds nice considering they make full boost at 2k, that would be good for the bottom end and the 4V would be good for the top. Having it bored a little to increase ci or have it stroked.

Check out the KoenigSegg. It is, or was, the fasted street legal car in production. Powered by a 4.6L DOHC modular bored to 4.7l. It is supercharged and w/ a mid-engine design. 0-60mph in 3.5 sec. 655 hp @6800 and 553 lb-ft @5000 and redlines @ 7000. Top speed is 240mph. I'd say you could build the motor without buying the car for $390K

The easy answer is forced induction. SC, Turbo or Nitrous.

as to Krly79 comments of gears, maybe 4.56 would cut max speed, 4.30 or 4.10 will only get you there to the top speed a little quicker, mostly in the lower gears. Once you get going , gears keep you in a better power band.
From a roll, at 55 mph, I don't think acceleration is much if any better than before gears. I am just in a different gear and rpm at the same speed.

basically you need to supercharge it or do a head and cam swap. these cars get pretty amazing once you really mod them. proablem is most poeple think mods are pullies and a catback.

If you really want a car that is just an animal you would get the kenne belle 9psi kit. 5k gets you 400rwhp on a stock car. over 400lbs of torque at low rpm. basically BC a member on here ran like a 12.32 with the 9psi kit. I don't think he ever had gears.
