  • Sponsors (?)

The terms are fords internal "nicknames"
1979-1993 "fox"
1994-2004 "sn-95"
The term new edge, 99-04 I think was the magizine guys
word to describe the body change in 99 not fords internal name.

New Edge was the name given to a style of automobile design based on Jack Telnack VP Ford Design between 80-97. The term was applied to the 1994-2004 Mustang as it was within the style model developed during his tenure and it is the most common name for the SN95 produced between these years.

The New Edge styling moved away from the round edges and curves to the straight edge/polygons design cues used. The design cues mainly died off in 2002 in most product lines but remained in use on the Mustang until 2004.

Each Mustang redesign is derived from a base platform that can be used in other vehicles, with modification. So they just won't call the new Mustang a D2C since this platform may be used in the future on other models. So as it is now the S197 was concepted from a modified DEW98 with a major change to the rear architecture and suspension we became the D2C aka S197.

Here is a list of the platforms:

B3 (subcompact FWD)
C1 (compact car FWD)
CD2 (compact SUV FWD/AWD)
CD3 (mid-size car FWD/AWD)
D3 (full-size car FWD/AWD)
