the only fix is to dig into my spare parts pile

it’s an 04 GT rack. According to a new revelation from Jack Hidley over on the corral, all 99-04 racks are the same. No more chasing those unobtainable expensive cobra racks.

I’m more pissed about having to move my tie rod inners over and realigning everything.

I think that there actually might be but it requires machine work.

Threads are drilled out, socket is welded or filled, and it's complete with a compression insert that looks something like this:

That is a good option for a rack that cannot be found easily or any other item that may be made from unobtainium

Or the ear of something harder to replace like an engine block or head or...

I've never used one on a car personally. I've used a ton of them on aircraft tho. LoL (that's a direct reflection on knuckle-dragging crew chiefs (and Jets and Hydro troops) that believe torque wrenches are for sissies )

Might be worthwhile if it was an 00 R rack, but in this case I have an equivalent rack on the shelf. Easier just to swap them

Thank you! I was planning on changing the rack in my hellhorse build and getting a solid steering shaft so it looks like I will be looking for a 99-04 GT rack then . I figured that would probably more cost-effective anyway

Went a different route on the sway bar. I had red paint I wanted to get rid of, and wanted it to match the red Eibach bar on the rear

Was that the Duplicolor red I used on mine that you said you had? Just curious how close it was to the Eibach color.

Was the VhT caliper paint.

No idea how close it is as I can’t really get to my rear bar at the moment, but it’s red enough, and I had the can.

Printed off a revised version. This should work nicely. Now to laser cut one.

Spare rack cleaned and painted on. Removed the tie tod ends and transferred over. I’ll tighten them once on the car.

onve I receive my new Teflon seals, I’ll install those with the rack off the car, and then install the rack.

I kinda dig the white face gauges, some have trouble with the back lighting though.

these do have trouble. It gets annoying because I like to drive with the parking lights on.

Anyway, I chose black. Put some of the interior together. I took the black ‘89 cluster apart and matched up the mileage. I moved my LEDs over as well. No idea how well this cluster works, but I have two of them so I’m sure I can get one working well. I won’t tighten up the cluster surround for now.

looks so odd to get in my car and look at oem faces. I did those white faces around 2000-2001 or so.

Didn’t put the console in. I’m likely going to pull the carpet anyway for the subframes and some sound deadener

I’ll squirrel this away somewhere safe

I also messed around with a ‘11-‘14 rotor to see if it fit better with the ATS brembos. It didn’t. The cobra rotor still fits the best. I have sboit 1mm of pad overhand, so I’ll likely just remove that material somehow
