Did you remove all the factory deadening first before laying down the kilamat?

Most of it. I removed what was already coming up on it's own. The sound deadening where the seatback hinge is mounted was pretty solid, so i left that and put the kilmat over that. It stuck fine and I figured two layers of sound deadening are better than one as long as the factory stuff was securely attached. If there was any indication that the deadening was loosening up i would remove it.

I did replace the padding that was under the rear seat over the Kilmat. I may replace some of the juke that stuffs in the quarters with some EZ-cool insulation sheets. I feel like i can cut it up and stuff it inside the panels for another layer of insulation

For the main floor, a few good size areas are coming up where your feet go so I'll just remove it. The factory deadening on the trans tunnel is stuck fast, so i'll leave it be.

I'm not concerned with weight savings here. I'm going to go to town.

Yeah pretty much common sense here but I was going to say if the factory deadening was lifting or cracking at all. Take the time to remove it first but sounds like you've got a solid plan

All done in the rear

Kilmat everywhere and foam on the arches and under the seat area. Even stuck foam in the quarter panel “pocket” area

Debating filling these with something. Not sure what yet

Lots of empty space here that can sound insulated.

Other than that, ready to put the interior back in.

The side panel juke is going back in.

However not a fan of the two big OeM juke carpets in the hatch area. It’s just a big dusty shedding mess that weighs 30 pounds. I might replace it wiTh one big sheet of Mass Loaded Vinyl

I might test the flammability of this and maybe cut it up and stuff it in the open areas. Or is this something that got chucked in the garbage years ago and I can get $1k for now on eBay?

As for the rear carpet. It’s tired. I might get a new rear ACC carpet

I found this from ACC. Out of stock but looks like it’s a modern alternative to the jute insulation

I think I’m going to order a new ACC carpet from Rockauto. The oem carpet is sunfaded and crushed down. It doesn’t look fresh at all.

Well, the hatch jute carpet is no more. I decided to break it up and stuffed it into the crevices in the quarter panel. So in a way even though I ditched it, it’s still with me.

That thing was a dusty mess that was alsways shedding fibers. No idea how I held onto it for 20+ years and didn’t ditch it.

I ordered the Essex style ACC hatch carpet with the mass backing. We will see if that’s enough, or I can buy the ACC sound deadener panel as well.

Anyway, all the insulation is back, and started putting the seats and panels back in.

As I was putting the rear plastics in, I saw three tiny squares of foam insulation. Since I had a whole box of the stuff and it weighs nothing, I figured no harm in adding it here as well

Looks good Mike. Are you still going to run your rear stabilizer? Your the one that gave me some pointers on mine. My car had to of those jute carpets in the back, they are in really good shape. I took them out and stored them.

I’d love to add the later seatbelts in my car. My daughter is too big for the car seat I had in my car. She’s onto a booster so I need to look into the seatbelts. I don’t know if I’ll find rear sand beige belts though.

I’m going to leave the rear bar out for now. I left the mounts in place, but just will leave the bar out. It gets in the way so later on when I’m done I’ll put it back.

You can always run black rear lap belts. A bit more available and I don’t think it will stand out too badly.

Couldn’t sleep, went in the garage and buttoned it up.

spent some time making sure the panels were properly aligned and used some foam on contact points.

I also put some foam on the plastic hatch panel trim piece and put that in place. I’m almost out, need to buy some more

Also installed new hatch struts.

Now just waiting on my new hatch carpet. Hope this was all worth it.

Gonna drop my headliner next. Need some sound deadener on the roof, but I want to rip off the faux suede I did back when I was young and do the correct vinyl.

Btw the new 92-93 hatch latch is so much better. The hatch locks tighter and it also latches easier. Hopefully the tighter hatch means less rattles.

Cool, I have to do the headliner on my 89 sunroof car and am interested to know what it is supposed to look like all put together

What color is your sunroof bag? Are they supposed to match the interior? Just curious.....

The inadequacy of the previous latch is likely the reason Ford decided to replace it so late into the production run.

I've added foam tape to interior parts in my '95 here and there to stop rattles. It's surprisingly rattle-free for a 27-year-old car. I think yours will be quiet as a tomb.

It's been so long since you drove it and you've done so many things, you'll be listening for ANYTHING and everything so I think you'll still hear more than you should... or at least think you hear more. Don't let that disappoint you when thinking about the deadening.

Oh i know. I'm not expecting it to drive like a brand new car. I'd like to see some improvement, especially with the SFC's and the deadening, but i'm not expecting it to ride/feel like a newer Mustang. It's still loud and raw.

Having the hatch latch tighter is going to be a plus as well. I can remember hearing that bounce around over big bumps no matter how much i tried to adjust it to be tighter. Swapping the 92-93 latch in definitely made a huge difference in how tight it is vs before.

If this knocks out some rattles in the interior, it's a win overall.

How was the kilamat pricing compared to other brands?

$64 for a box of Kilmat 50mil, 50sf. The Noico 150mil foam was $50 for 36sf. (BTW Kilmat and Noico are owned by the same company)

I believe they want $62 for a box of 80mil, 36sf. It's priced on par with the Noico and other stuff. I avoided Noico because i read it has asphalt in it while the Kilmat was pure butyl rubber only. Dynamat was $170 for 50mil, 36sf! Dynamat and Kilmat are both 100% butyl rubber, so I don't see the point of spending more.
