We rented a house in PA for a week near Lake Wallenpaupack (spelling could be off) two years ago.
Anyway, was floating around on the small lake that came with house one day, and two bald eagles soared over top. I’ll never forget that!! God bless the USA!!

Nice, I too just got back from a long weekend at the lake (Texoma)... great times, except there's so much boat traffic on holiday weekends you can't really get much surfing time in.

Back at it. Filled the old holes and started drilling the new holes. Realized I didn’t have the right bit in hand so I couldn’t do my final test fit with the k member. Will need to hold off til I get the 14mm bit.

also welded up some of the holes on the rail.

I also built a rolling mount for the body. I’m going to weld up the engine bay holes shortly, so I’d rather wheel the car out into fresh air. Plus it helps me move the car around in the garage better.

Pair of 2x6s bolted together with some casters with a 10” height. I then bolted them into the bottom k-member mounts. It’s VERY sturdy.

Test fit the k-member. Seems to be good now. Have some wiggle room to adjust. I relocated the holes back 0.700”.

Now to relocate the holes in the top plate and weld that back on

Dave,

While you are here. Thinking ahead to painting this engine bay. Primer first, then body filler to smooth out all the filled in holes? Or fill and sand first them prime?

Depends, if you can strip to metal and fill at the same time, then do that.

If you have to delay between actions, get the bare metal covered until you can fill it.

It’s always best to put filler over bare metal, do strip off the primer you sprayed to protect the metal.

If you want a long version explaining why I tell you this, let me know.

Welding the holes , although tedious, would be the preferred method.
Strip, weld ,grind , fill , sand , prime, sand, paint...ouch !
Although maybe Dave can confirm but a metal 2 metal filler could be a nice option and not have the tendency
to crack like normal filler.

Metal To Metal Filler Quart With Hardener

Metal Filler applies like a plastic filler, butreinforced with fine aluminum particles

Well this is gonna be easier than I thought. A few spot welds later and out comes the plate and the inner ring holding the two bolt supports. I know I touched upon this in the SN95 vs fox rust thread, but the inside of the SN95 rail is much simpler and more open in construction vs the fox rail.

I’m going to weld up the original holes, drill the new holes where I need them and fabricate the plate and bolt tubes from new stock.

as for the top plate? I may cheat and laser cut a new one...because I can

WTH am I looking at? I can never tell where any of this stuff comes from because usually pics are too close for me to get my bearings.
