I was under the assumption that the vacuum tree under that intake could be used without having to drill and tap for the original vacuum tree. Is there anything else that needs to be done other than tapping and drilling for the act and egr?

Perfect photo to show the difference between the HO vac lines and the early EGR explorer

On the HO intake, the two capped lines are for the charcoal canister (front) and MAP sensor for early SD cars (rear)

I made the PCV setup match the mustang by removing the front fitting on the underside of the plenum and drill/tap for a plug here (you can see the plug on the HO intake).

I also removed the large brake booster plug and am drill/tap to install the mustang vacuum tree block. This will give the EGR and FPR it's own vac port to hook to.

I plan on pulling the long skinny port out from the rear and put a small port in (need to find one)

I also plan to pull the long bent port out from the front and put a small port for the charcoal canister.

The later intakes even have coolant routed to the manifold. Those ports can just be blocked off. This is a later, EGR intake that actually has coolant ports around the PCV valve. These are not vac ports
[/URL]

And a later non-EGR intake with integrated coolant (the lines marked 7/32 cap)

Here's how the cobra setup is factory plumbed for reference. There's a small line for the charcoal canister on the front. No provision for a MAP sensor.

No disrespect taken. That's why I'm sharing pics of this step by step. I'll detail it out when I get to finalizing the lines

For now, the citristrip is working pretty well. The more it sits the more it peels off

I'll scrub this all off, and then reapply and let sit some more

Works better than the aircraft stripper...just slower

Don't have any, plus I don't feel like doing this stuff outside. Cold out.

The citristrip is working. Stuff just peels off. I just lather it on, and go to work. Come home, stuff brush it off, and hit the spots that still have it. Plus I can do it in my warm basement. This weekend I'll take it to the car wash and power wash the rest off

Converted another explorer TB for use on the Mustang

See here

https://www.stangnet.com/mustang-fo...-an-explorer-65mm-tb-to-work-on-a-fox.901006/

I'll probably upgrade to a 70 or 75mm TB down the road as I'm using a 75mm egr spacer and matching the explorer intake throat to blend to it, but I'll use what I have for now

My upper intake is F67E-9425-CA. Looks like mine is an early intake.

Apparently there are also a few different version uppers and lowers for the early EGR style

f67e-9425-ca,or f77e-9425-ab for the uppers

F67e-9k461-ba or f87e-9k461-ba for the lowers.

My set came together as an F6 upper and the f8 lower. Thought they came from the same truck by guess not

Not my intake but you can see the underside of the f6 intake doesn't have the coolant provision

All the spots are still right.

Here's a shot of mine. Keeping it wet until I can power wash the soft paint off this weekend. Pita to remove by hand.

Basically I removed one of the plenum plugs and drill/tap and plugged it. I'll run a line from the 3/8" fitting in front to one side of the t, and the other side for pcv.

The other front port is charcoal canister.

On the back, the long skinny one got yanked out and drill/tap and plugged, and I need to remove the vac source tube and drill tap for the stock mustang tree.

Wrapped the intake ina trash bag the last day or so (to keep the stripping gel wet) and then took to power wash this AM. Got 95% of the paint off. I'd say it's a pretty effective method if you have the patience to wait a couple days and let the gel work. Did it all in my basement slop sink.

Now to clean up the rest by hand and then cut off the throttle cable boss and sand off some of the casting marks for a cleaner look. Then finish drill/tap my vacuum ports...then paint.

Here's my vac line layout. Need to add a port in front for charcoal canister. I may add one in rear for future use. ( or map sensor if ever needed)

Need to ID what tap size inners for the mustang vacuum tree. Anyone?

About an hour or so with a sander cleaning up casting marks and removing the throttle cable boss. All the paint is gone. Just need to pick up a wire wheel for my drill to clean up some tight spaces

Prob a tiny bit more work to clean these features up

Cleaned up my sandblasted HO plate. Worked on sanding the top surface. Need to get some high temp black paint next. Not going to a full polish. Going with the machined surface look. Explorer intake are only drilled for two intake plate holes, so I'll drill/tap the other two.

I wish this plate sat the other way. I'd run it.

That's it for today. Washed the intake in soap/water and letting it dry. Will clean it up a bit more with my wire wheel and paint the intake plate. Need to look up drill/tap sizes and get those before I can proceed.

I also intend to do some porting at the transitions, and enlarge the EGR neck to match my 75mm egr spacer. At some point I'll probably buy a 70 or 75mm TB

I'll probably work on the finish a few more times. I'm by no means done, just need to try a few methods. I'm sure I want to paint it, so not sure going too smooth is a good thing for the paint to adhere to.

But features like this casting seam on the front of the manifold need to go. Just trying to decide most effective method.

Not much doing today. Drilled and tapped the extra two intake plate screws for the HO plate. They are 8-32 if you are curious. Also chased all the 5/16-18 threads in the upper and lower.

Had to order the 3/8" npt drill bit and tap as someone misplaced it at work and of course it's the only one missing. After that I'll wrap up my vac fittings.

Final shot before paint. Going to do some more sanding on the upper intake first. Just to recap it's a tmoss ported lower, modified explorer 65mm tb, and edelbrock 75mm egr spacer snagged off eBay for cheap

I think I've also decided to go MS3 on the car. I will hold off on my mass air swap for the moment as the MS3 really doesn't need it. Got my kit priced out, just holding off until I wrap up my seat project. I'll prob retain the SD setup and go EDIS with the car. Unsure if I'll go as far as individual coils but I like a challenge.

Also, driveway mod. I said I'd never buy another black car. Traded in wife's car for a '17 traverse. I wanted and explorer but the seat layout just worked better for us on the GM. my car gives up the title of family hauler...meaning I can get something less practical next time around. Hmmm

I paid a little extra to have matt (toms son) tank it and paint the intake. Looks brand new

And some nice porting

I turned the cover inside out to measure. Now it seems closer to 26". I think I was wrong these are the right seat civersz

@karthief or anyone else with 84-89 seats, if you measure your seat back from bottom j clip to top seam, is it 26" or more? I measured my sn95 seats and I get 24", so I think this is a false alarm.

I also notice they change color under certain light.

2500k light. I'd take this no problem

5k light. Doesn't even look the same huh

My garage is all t5ho fixtures with 4K bulbs. Conclusion? Need to see them in the sun and decide.

Any different? (Snowing out so the most sun I'll get today)

I asked my wife what color they were. She said "magenta". They are going back. I'm disappointed

I called CJ. Wouldn't exchange because I got them on super duper clearance. Shipping costs back are in the $100-140 range for the boxes based on quotes I got. I've got an RMA ready....

So...$400 back in my pocket...or give them a shot?

I don't hate them. I just wish they weren't so sensitive to what sort of lighting I was looking at them with. Let me think about this.

Hate to say this, but I think I flipped again. Threw the covers in the car and snapped some pics. They look purple. I even took a seat back with me to work today to show some coworkers and out in the bright sun, they look pink. The look pink, more than red.

Needless to say, I'm going to start packing these back up.

In-car

Here's the trippy part.

One pic

Now, I put on a different light

Here's the real world pic though. Put a seat back in the Taurus and drove it around today. Each time I looked back...it looked magenta. I don't want magenta

It's not terrible...but just not what I want to do. I know I've flip-flopped a few times, but there's just no way I can install these and have to worry about what sort of lighting I take my photos in so my seats don't look pink. They really are so sensitive that different color lighting affects it so much. Unfortunately, out in full sun is what sealed the deal. A female coworker said "why are you putting pink seats in your car" and that was pretty much it.
