CAnt wait to clean this all up and replace it.

Plugging along. Got in an hour here and there between house projects.

Many years ago when I was 17/18, I tried to use the radiator suppprt to jack up the car. Fortunately I stopped before major damage was done. But this is one thing I’ll try to correct

Got it all apart. Everything is off the engine.

Just need to remove the h pipe, driveshaft and drop the trans and it’s pull time

Attached my load leveler tonight. Pulled the smog tube off. Hmm, this might be why I was getting a code for this

Disregard that last post. Ended up just using two grade 8 bolts 7/16” in the heads and using a chain. Should be easy to pull out.

I may pull this tomorrow (took day off)

I got curious so I yanked off the cobra lower. I set this in place 20 years ago as one of my first mods. Was curious to see if any vac leaks.

There were none. I did however use too much rtv around coolant ports

However, interesting to note the ford Racing (or Ford Motorsport whatever they were circa 2000) kit shipped with a small baffle lower intake.

My ported rxploder intake already has the large baffle

Also, not sure why that one particular dead port had a frothy mess inside. The bolts were all corroded. New hardware incoming

Also, not that I had any suspicion the motor wasn’t original, but I cleaned off 31 years of grime to find the vin stamp on the engine block.

This block is gonna be tough to degrease

This thing is a grimy, oozing mess. Every gasket leaks. I guess what can you expect from a motor that’s 30 years old and sat for 10.

This is a big reason why I pulled it out

MOtor mounts were garbage as well

Flywheel. Only about 1k miles on this.

Resurface or just get a new one?
Clutch and pressure plate looked good

But....here’s the bad news.

Pass side strut tower. Some minor bubbling, but still solid. I figure some wire wheel with some primer and paint will clean this up. Not a big deal.

Not too bad for a northeast car

But how’s the drivers side you say? Well, I knew I’d have to address it, but it’s much worse than I thought.

This will need to get fixed, with steel parts. I can weld...so really the big hurdle is finding a welder.

But overall wasn’t bad getting this out. Did the trans removal and engine pull myself today alone in under 3 hrs.

My garage looks like a mustang exploded all over the inside. Time to shuffle some parts into storage for a few months and organize everything

Next phase, some power washing. Not too many warm days left so I want to get the car and engine degreased.

Then...I’ll start with the motor first. I’m curious to see the Pistons/cylinders. If everything looks good I’ll assemble, if not...short block time.

After motor is built, I’ll work on the bay

I put a new one on when I had mine apart, and although the clutch was good..... I was told they should wear in together, so I put a new clutch in as well. With only 1000 miles, maybe a resurface and the same clutch is ok?

Flywheel get resurfaced, scuff the plate and clutch assembly with sand paper and run it.
What's up with the freeze plug above the starter? Was it leaking onto the starter?

I'd say your starter shows the classic salt and mag chloride corrosion.
