This might have something to do with it.

Factory block heater freeze plug leaking green, oily residue right over the starter.

Good call

I wasn’t kidding when I said this engine leaked from every gasket and sealing surface.

A little more garage cleanup this AM. Waiting for this nor’easter to move out so I can powereash some parts.

Draining the t5. Proud of this trans. My second rebuilt trans and one of the first bigger projects I took on back when changing spark plugs was all I could typically do.

I’ll run this trans with the new motor. It’s silent, and shifts like butter.

I do have a spare parts trans, so I have been debating an Astro performance kit. Depends on time/budget

Threw some parts in the driveway and busted out the pressure washer. Got most of the driveline clean but didn’t do the bay.

Did the engine pretty well. Could finally read some casting info.

My car was built in feb, 1988 according to Marti report. My block was apparently cast on Jan 18, 1988. Not much time later it was in a car.

Much cleaner. Time to strip it down to short block

Is that plug below the block heater a coolant drain plug?

No idea. Never took one out. I’ll check it out when I pull that pan

More stuff coming apart

Valve covers were spotless. This is how I removed them.

Some stuff that will never go back on the car ever again. I’ll likely eBay what I can to get rid of it. E7 heads will likely get stripped and tossed out in the yard under my deck until my next scrap run

Casting date on the heads was same as block

Has to stop due to not having a harmonic balancer puller.

Overall, happy with what I saw. No real issues with the cylinders. No ridge and th crosshatch all still present. All 8 looked perfect

Best way to clean the carbon off?

I didn’t check check my heads, but I suspect those valve seals were leaking

I guess these valve seals could have been a tad leaky

The inconsistent exhaust valve coloration is curious.

Guess I did have a puller

Got most of it torn down. Just need to pull the timing chain and remove the cam now

Once cam is out, I’ll spend a bit more time cleaning it up, some paint, and then time to reassemble

Some more elbow grease and called it s night. Sons bday party tomorrow so this is how we will leave off for now.

Some more cleaning, paint the block, and then reassemble time. Can’t wait!

Need to pick a color for the block. I don’t want black. Everything on this car is black.

There will be some guy in one of the states or areas with tight emissions controls that will pay you big $$$ for it...
That will help finance some of the other goodies you want...

I also have an original H pipe in excellent condition.

OP, I like that grey color. Subtle but clean.
