That looks like the rung for the T-top storage straps in the hatch.
Oops, I was wrong again.
I was looking through my service manual, the hold down straps are seperate from that piece.
The t-top hold down straps are close to them, just inboard by about 8 inches. Those I took out fairly recently.
I'll keep looking through my service manuals. They have to be in there somewhere.

Now, while I get that the work youre doing is tedious and dirty, I do miss having something to work on like that, and envy your time with it. I spent dumb amounts of time and money on a 351W powered Ford Ranger winter beater the last couple years just for the sake of having a hot rod project. It was fun having a vehicle I could tear apart and not feel bad about it. My Mustang is on the border of too nice to dick around with, plus I genuinely like it the way it is. I cut up the stock hood to make a heat extractor style out of it, but went about it all wrong. I have since bought another hood to do it again in a better way (Do it twice Nick learned from do it twice, three times, maybe four @madmike1157 ). But since my garage isnt heated, I havent started version two yet. I have some exhaust changes I am going to make when it warms up outside, but the wife and I have been aggressively paying off our debts so the big ticket projects are on hold for the next couple years.
The work is tedious, you are right, and I'm having the time of my life doing it.
Plus, I have the added pressure of a sixteen year old that wants my truck as his own (more or less). This makes it extra nice for me and my DOBY. I'm "forced" to work on it every chance I get. Dang
.That new mustang of yours seems pretty nice. Surely you'll find some time and extra money for it.
But, yeah, making an older mustang back into something nice is pretty darn good.
No heat in your garage and live in Iowa? When I was in the army a long time ago we had extreme cold weather gear made for just such an instance.
I have thermals I can use, but I hate cold hands, cold tools, and my breath making everything wet and icy under the car. I have a kerosene heater, but being just on the good side of miserable kinda takes the fun out of it. I can always find extra money here and there to throw at it, but I am now at the point that the next step is a twin screw blower and supporting mods soooo yeah. Pretty sure the wife is going notice that money come out of the bank, lol.
Lmbo, I understand. I kind of decided with this build that I'm going to spend first and field questions later. It's been a long time coming for me.

, and after looking through my shop manuals for a couple of hours (so many distracting things I found to read about!),I have officially discovered what that bolt and the holes are for!
They are for the tether attachment for the child seat restraint system. They were covered with seam sealer as well and were an option on our mustangs(not the hole, you get that for nothing).You probably have the same holes in your fox body floors under the carpet, sound deadener, seam sealer and a plug. Now we know, do you feel as enriched as I do?
Im on the fence between a big Kenne Bell, or a couple different TVS variants. I have time, so I havent decided yet. All I know is that I have already owned a turbo car, and am now ready for a brute torque producing combo with a whine.
I really, really like the coyote engine. What a brute waiting to bust out.
Have you done anything with the cast Pistons yet? I understand the big fix is the oil pump. Little bit of work to install it, but seems necessary for big power.
Kenne is really proud of his blowers, but they have so many options with the case cooling and all.
I'm enjoying my car, but I can see where yours could be pretty dang fun too.
Can't you push the stock bottom end up close to 700hp? GOOD GAWD! That could possibly be entertaining somehow.
TVS are cheaper, and yet, still badass. Tough call, got to admit, if I had the money though, I would call Kenne.
Do it twice Nick? How does that math work? You started on the heat extractor hood, and stood it up against the back wall in your garage incomplete. You didn't even make a full first version.

I was trying to figure out what that odd bolt and holes next to the rear shock tower were. Found it in my service manual finally. At least I have a decent reason for not remembering what they were for.

That is the only thing I dislike about my car, is how big and heavy it is in relation to a fox.
