It's a dark image but it looks like there might have been a rubber bushing on the end of it.
It goes through the frame underneath the rear, right above where the diff tubes are. I'll remember eventually. Has large threads like it might hold a rubber bumper, I just don't recall that.

I used to own a Jeep Wrangler when I lived in Iowa city just so I could get around in the winter time. Four wheel drive was a good thing.
Hard to keep a young kid focused....plus it is basketball......Cool you got those great seats though.
We're having seventies again this coming weekend, so I'll need to at least finish off painting the interior with POR 15. I've finished taking off the interior seam sealer and am just cleaning and doing the finish sanding. I'm giving it a wash with hot soapy water tonight.
If I have time, I'm going to get the rear undercarriage coated as well.
I really need to get back in the engine compartment to finish off the smoothing job. I'm going to take the car down to the shop mid-March to paint it all.

The work is tedious, you are right, and I'm having the time of my life doing it.Now, while I get that the work youre doing is tedious and dirty, I do miss having something to work on like that, and envy your time with it. I spent dumb amounts of time and money on a 351W powered Ford Ranger winter beater the last couple years just for the sake of having a hot rod project. It was fun having a vehicle I could tear apart and not feel bad about it. My Mustang is on the border of too nice to dick around with, plus I genuinely like it the way it is. I cut up the stock hood to make a heat extractor style out of it, but went about it all wrong. I have since bought another hood to do it again in a better way (Do it twice Nick learned from do it twice, three times, maybe four @madmike1157 ). But since my garage isnt heated, I havent started version two yet. I have some exhaust changes I am going to make when it warms up outside, but the wife and I have been aggressively paying off our debts so the big ticket projects are on hold for the next couple years.

It's been a long time coming for me.I have thermals I can use, but I hate cold hands, cold tools, and my breath making everything wet and icy under the car. I have a kerosene heater, but being just on the good side of miserable kinda takes the fun out of it. I can always find extra money here and there to throw at it, but I am now at the point that the next step is a twin screw blower and supporting mods soooo yeah. Pretty sure the wife is going notice that money come out of the bank, lol.

I was looking through my service manual, the hold down straps are seperate from that piece.
The t-top hold down straps are close to them, just inboard by about 8 inches. Those I took out fairly recently.
I'll keep looking through my service manuals. They have to be in there somewhere.

Naww, normal stuff between him and me,....he just needs thicker padding in the seat portion of his jeans,...I bite way harder, he bleeds way easier.
