Build Thread My 1986 T-top Build - Lasting Memories

For $1K, I say grab it, sit on it, continue as planned with Doby and your truck for your kiddo. Wouldnt risk a teen wrecking what appears to be a super straight platform for a "dream build" of yours. It may not be fast, but I bet the brakes on it are a joke, and beg for rear ending or not slowing quick enough for a curve in the road. Seeing what youre doing with Doby while "in a hurry," that '83 could be a super rare show car down the road... That is just my thinking.

Edit: Dave, with your skill level and a couple/few years, that '83 could be a magazine car. Thats all I mean.
Hopefully that will be the intent. Lots of ideas. I might make it my dd while I finish the red car. Let Andy drive the truck, lol, he'll like that.:zombie:

Do you know much about the new ones being sold from original ford tooling? Wouldn't those molds be required to have the ford logo and part number wiped before they could make bumpers?

Not sure. The part number indicates a 1985 engineering P/N but not indiciative of when it was made. Usually there is a date circle cast/molded into the part that indicates this, but not necessarily.

So, here's the hatch before:

And after stripping it:

Bondo work tomorrow.

As an interesting note, I found rust all over this hatch under the blue paint. It wasn't bubbled up though, it would soon.

Jeeeez! I can't imagine the time that took, not to mention the incredible skill involved.
You gotta give it up to Chrysler.

Back in the 70's, the Mopar contingent was few and far between. Ford and Chevy were the only brands that generally was considered "popular".

Yet there was always "that guy". The one in the 70 road runner,...67 GTX, A 71 'Cuda, or in the case above, a 68-70 Charger.

We made fun of the build quality, laughed at the stupid sounding starter, and joked about how More Optional Parts Are Required.

All the while they built these super hot, complex bodied behemoths, knowing that one day some deep pocket collector (that probably was one of the guys making fun of them) would dole out over a million dollars for one of them with a Hemi and a soft top.

A new beer! Great flavor, slight tequila flavor.....not that I'm drinking any...no.....really.......I'm working! I wouldn't do that...:D...

I've had that one before. I thought it was pretty good with just the right amount of tequila flavor.
I've been afraid to try that stuff. If your insides don't try to violently exit through your backside in the next 12 hours let me know. I will give it a go.
I haven't had it in a while but my insides are still intact.

Sooooo....crap.

I brought my stripped hatch back home to do the body work this weekend. I remembered the bondo, sandpaper, even my da so I could start stripping the spoiler. Smart boy, right?

I forgot my blocks. smh.

Y'all should be grateful out there for me. I've absorbed so much dumb*ss through the years that there can't be that much left floating around for everyone else.:nonono:

Anyhow, my little compressor will run my da, but very slowly....Which is good while I strip the spoiler though. It takes a lot longer, but I don't round off anything that shouldn't be.

Kind of stagnant other than that. I'll paint my bumpers and spoiler this coming week, then they go upstairs with the doors, fenders and hood.

I'm going to try to get the hatch in primer by Tuesday, then I'll let it sit for a couple weeks and let the primer shrink back.

So, maybe this week I'll get back on the body and finally run my lines.
