After three fun filled years of driving my 00 GT vert, I have to part ways with her this year. My son loves this car, and wanted me to keep it for him.....He's 14 and wanted her to be his first car.....YEAH RIGHT!!! Anyways, I was leaning towards buying a new Dodge Charger RT, room for the family, and still keeps the V-8 for my power needs. Anybody have a chance to play with an RT, or have opinions on what other comparable cars I should look at? All suggestions are appreciated.

I absolutely agree. If you're selling your Mustang, replace it with something that gets great gas mileage.

My co-workers have them, and the fit/finish is much better than the new edge mustangs.

The power seems ok, but they do weigh much more than a GT does too.

They have a problem with the brake rotors that Dodge will not cover under warranty.

IMO, it's a great motor stuffed into an ugly body, but it's one of the only v8 4drs out there now.

the black R/Ts are definitely sweet looking. i hate the top banana colored ones BLEH. base chargers dont do it for me either.

but, if you are going the dodge route, hold out for a few more months, get the Challenger

i had a hemi for 3 years (albeit in a truck), and i liked it alot.

EDIT: its true about the rotors. even the trucks had alot of warped issues. i was one of the lucky ones that didnt, but if you are going the route of the R/T, id upgrade to some power slots anyways. they look better, and perform better, and would cost you $350 - $400 for all 4, and installation is a breeze.

the only issue i had in 3 years was substandard aftermarket support, and power steering leaks.

I think your gonna miss the top down driving if you go with the Dodge. What about a new vert stang? It's bigger in and out and available with a stick and top down fun.

If I needed V8 power in a sedan for the family, I'd go looking for a Marauder. I've seen several of them with superchargers run low 8's in the 1/8th mile, and I saw one in the 7.90's.

300C with the 5.7L...or you can go big and get the SRT8 with the 6.1L.
The new charger is ugly as sin, but the 300C is sexy.

I am most Definitely going to miss top down driving. I don't want to get rid of the Mustang, but I am planning on having another baby soon....Maybe I should just get a car that gets good mileage with room for the kids and keep the Mustang as a weekend car.

I did look at the Mauraders, but I like the Chargers just a little bit more.

Now, if I could only afford the SRT8.....

I didn't know about the brakes/rotor issue so I'll be sure to look into to that. Unfortunately for me, there are not many 4 door V8 rear wheel drive vehicles out there to choose from.

Now, that's what most of us do. An Accord/Mazda 6/Fusion makes a great dd/family car without breaking the bank. For even more room, I personally have a Ford 500 with V-6/6spd auto that has the tough daily duties - tons of room, trunk space to hold all the sports equipment galore and can even make the trips costco and home depot work. Gets 19mpg all local driving and upper 20s hwy. My Mustang gets weekend/evening ballgames and lacrosse games to drive back and forth to whenever I can. Also gives me a chance to get downtime on the stang if I have a project for it - say cams without having to rush it.

GL with your decison, but would hate to see you regret selling the vert.

Im not gonna lie, on the way to Montana one time i wanted to see what my car could do and I had it up to about 140 (my hood scoop started shaking so I thought i'd call it good) and an R/T passed me like I wasn't even moving. I think they are ugly as well, but the R/Ts just look quite a bit better.

Don't sell it. You should get an older (8-10 year) car like a Volvo or Mercedes for the DD duties. My wife is due and we just got her a 1996 Volvo 850 GLT Wagon. It's super comfortable and we picked it up for $4,200 cash. No car payment and a stang FTW!!!!!

I have driven them they feel torquey but they also feel very big. They dont have a very high fun factor in my mind i would much rather keep my mustang then buy one of those. Now if it was an srt8 on the other hand that would be a little different.

The Maurader is a boat on land, stock. Heavy as sin and only 305 HP.

Stock, it is by no means a fast car. Plus, it's an old platform whereas the Dodge isn't. I don't like Dodge either, but if you had to choose from a Charger or a Maurader, the choice is easy if money isn't a factor.

I'd look at toyota to fit your needs. Okay.. they don't make a v8 sedan but with 268 HP coming out of a fuel efficient v6, with leg room to fit me(6'2). It comes in either the avalon, or the camry. The sport edition camry comes with the sporty look of wheels, ground effects, different interior design. Go give them a test drive, I swear it will sell you. Affordable too. 24k can get you a decently equipped v6 Camry.

Plus two, they are awesome cars. My wife would have bought one except her dad is a Gm employee so she got her G6 for like 6K off sticker.
