Went to the strip tonight, expecting my times to improve over the last time I went (see sig) because I finally got a 70mm TB and 70MM EGR. Looks like I was wrong to expect that. I actually got slower. Best I could muster was a 14.48@97.7mph with a 2.1 60ft. I'm not real happy to say the least. I'm so happy I did all this work just to run stock 5.0 times...

Are there any problems that you know of? Any at all. Even the minor mechanical ones?

Somethings not right there Lars.
Your loosing somewhere, is your clutch slipping?, Traclok worn out?, fuel pump, fuel filter, timming, something.

at least be glad you can race at this time of year! there are some of us who arent so fortunate

I would definitely get the car checked over. Kinda sounds like there is a problem somewhere, with those mods you should be running better than mid 14s, I'd kinda expect to see a car with those mods running into the 13s 2.1 60' isnt great, but its decent and definitely shouldnt hold ya back that much..well good luck dude

sure it was'nt the weather, my car runs high 12's and on cold nights below 60 i run low 14's, maybe a traction problem?

Something's obviously not right. Your setup sounds good and I think it'd be good for 12's with traction. I'd check your fuel pressure, timing, compression, or whatever to see if something is off.

I was out launching most of the other stangs that were there tonight, but they kept catching me on the top end. The only thing I can figure is, is the ecu needs to be recalibrated, cause it was running so rich on the top end on my dyno runs(12.5:1 and less @ 3K+). I didn't think it would make that much of a difference, but I'm out of ideas...

what you go to the track, What kind of tire are you using and what are you launching at. If you are using a bfg drag tire or nitto. Then get rid of them, or better yet get a spare set of 10 holes and get M.T Et streets. I use them on my car, I run about 10-12 psi at the track and I launch at 6000rpms just dumping the clucth. I have no problem hooking at all. Car runs constint 1.6-1.7 60 foot. Your 2.1 means your spinning and that is were you are loseing everything.

Yeah, something is not right there; I would think your trap speeds should be a little higher with those mods. If the trap speed isn't there, the power isn't there. Even with that 60 ft. you should be in the 13's with what you've done.
Is your car a 5-speed or AOD? Where is the track located; in the Rockies?LOL

12's with that setup? I don't think so... explorer intake... gt40P heads? My friend has basically the same setup with a 6# powerdyne and is running mid-low 13's and his car runs great. Also you really didn't need the 70mm TB, 65 would of been plenty the 70 will probably kill a lot of your torque. My dads car is making 400rwhp with a 65mm TB...

edit: 14.4 is a little quicker than most stock 5.0 times and i'm sure with just practice/tricks you could get it down more...

i agree about the throttle body, but i don't quite agree about the times. there are quite a few people out there running mid to low 13's with less mods. alot more than parts have to do with this though. weather, weight of car, last of all, driving and traction are a big part of it.

LarsD, ever think of a dyno tune? your mph should be quite a bit higher than that.

Yeah the times should be about a full second faster...just practice with different shift points and shift fast

Good Luck

I ran pretty close times, my best time in my sig was powershifting, but I was doing consistent 14.4's

Come to find out the rattling noise I was hearing in the topend was my pinging so that and the tiny air filter I had on my car that night explains why my MPH was so low.

I'd start with timing, air, fuel, and spark.

i disagree. with his mods and a good driver/traction id say more like mid to high 12s. what mph is ur buddy trapping with his combo and the blower?

I think 70mm is too big for your combo anyway. Biggest i would have gone with is 65mm.

But my buddy has the same combo as you. GT-40P's, TFS Stage 1 and a Cobra intake with 65mmTB, 24's, 17's....same basic 'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me'. He's trapping 105MPH in the 1/4mile with it.

I've never seen a stock 5.0 run 97-98 mph in the 1/4 mile......thats a lot faster than stock.

I believe he could run 12's with setup. Look at my mods, I'm still using a stock motor with a few bolt ons and I've run 13.55 @100.3 with traction. I'm sure with all the extra stuff he has like GT-40P heads(Still better than stock), cam, injectors, etc, it shouldn't be hard. His trap is way low for his setup. Before I changed my Mass air and upper intake, on street tires, I've run 14.03 @ 98.

My problem is that the power isn't there up above 5K. Last time I went I pulled a 2.0 60ft and only got a flat 14.4. The car's low end picked up a lot when I put the 70mm on it. I could feel it, but it's just not breathing right on the high end, which with the 4.10's I'm never below 4K. I should be trapping a lot higher than 97-98 with these mods. I beleive that I'm getting the E.T.'s from the launch and the low end torque, but since the high end power isn't there, I'm not trapping good at all. Like I said, I had it on a dyno and the A/F above 3K was 12.5 and just got worse as the rpm's went up. That's the only thing I can figure.
