i went to my friends house tonight and there was one of my buddys there with his 1987 camaro iroc-z that has like 50,000 miles. so everyone was egging us on to race, i finally crushed under the pressure and we went out to the spot or the track wherever you think we were.
1st race- i just spun my tires to clean them off he did the same got to the line i just held it at 3000 rpm's since it usually bites if i slip it just right. didnt happen the kid dropped his arms and i dumped it spun all the way through 1st and then i missed second and hit the limiter, i finally got it into gear but by the time i got traction in mid second he was about a car ahead. i quickly recovered by the top of second and third gear. and put 2 cars on him by the end. i wanted to go again though with good traction.
2nd race- revved to like 2500 and slipped it out and got a pretty good launch no spin but it bogged a little. we were dead even through 1st and about halfway into second but at the top of second i had a car on him. slammed it into third and by the end of third i was about 3 cars ahead when we shut down.
you guys always say how slow these things are but i thaught it was a close race. maybe my car is just dying in its old mileage. they run high 14s from the factory with a 6.6 0 to 60. should i have beat him by more? all i know is i gotta fix my one wheel wonder! i just ordered an install kit and a trac-loc rebuild kit. ill have a video of the race up whenever i can figure out how to put them on the internet.

A friend of mine had an 87 iroc with the 350 in it, he thought it was fast till I spanked him good (both of our cars were stock). So within a couple months he traded it in for an Explorer, I still feel kinda bad about it...

Does he have anything done to the IROC?

Looking at your mods, your car should be fairly quick.

Fixing the one wheel peel will help quite a bit.

that really sounds about right for the street... his car probably isnt spinning as bad either and ur still putting a good three cars on him which is a lot in just 3 gears with 3:73s...

taking it to the track is really the only way to see for sure how much faster u are than him. But either way, I don't think that race is a true indicator that ur car is slow. I mean you won.. and by more than just a nose... and thats with tire spin.. So relax

well, at the same time either that iroc was hurting, or dude driving it couldn't drive. Those irocs aren't slow by any means. Sounds like you were just trying to be humble while saying "I spanked and IROC-Z today."
Sounds like fun either way.

yeah you make a good point there. im takin my car to the track in a couple weeks. i just ordered a complete install kit and a traction-lok rebuild kit so i can finally swap out these howling 3.55's for the 3.73's i already have. i just know ill be disapointed with what i run, and i hate beating on my car constantly.

No offense but it sounds like maybe you just need more practice? It's easier to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car fast...if that makes sense. Basically, if you can't drive a fast car properly, you can get showed up by a slower car that is driven properly.

no, driving had nothing to do with it. i hammered every gear right at 6 grand and it didnt miss a lick. traction was my main enemy. im gonna take a picture of the 1 tire fire tomm. its about a football field long, lol. anyone know if you can take a video from a digicamcorder when i used the tape for it and not the memory card, and put it on streetfire or somt.
