My cat is rattling - Question for catted MRT H-pipe owners

The passenger side cat on my MRT H-pipe is rattling like mad. I sent email to the boys at MRT to find out what the warranty on the cats was, and they said I should have been sent two warranty cards with the mid-pipe. I keep everything for the parts I buy for the car, but I didn't have the cards. MRT said they would send me some new ones pronto. Those guys give great service. :nice:

My question is what does the warranty card say? I've had the mid-pipe on for about 9 months now, but only 2K miles - am I still under some kind of warranty for the cats??? I remember hearing that they were Magnaflow cats, but am not sure. I guess thats on the card.

Thanks!

That's crazy!!!
I just had that same exact problem. I have the MRT Catted H-Pipe and the passenger side cat was rattling. I called them up and they sent me a new H-Pipe and are waiting for me to ship the old one back. I had to pay another damn installation fee. This must be a known issue. I had it on for only 4 months and less than 4000 miles. This must be a known issue and if it happens again, I will be soooooooo pissed off. They should give me my money back and buy me a stock H-Pipe and pay for all my installation costs. Any update on your situation?

I have had mine on for about 6K miles so far and no problems. About a month or so ago I thought I heard some rattling that I thought was the cats but I think it was just engine noise. Once I installed my Steeda T/A the noise seemed to have gone away. The T/A did seem to smooth out my engine.

Hmm. MRT catted H here. I swear I can hear a rattle from the driver's side cat when I close the door. Seems to only do it hot and come to think of it, I haven't heard this in a while. I thought it might be the heat shield but now I'm wondering... I hear the cats are just Magnaflow high-flow units. Anyone with Magnaflow Xs having trouble?

I don't recall getting any warranty card either. I'd probably end up just buying some hi-flo jobs and having them welded in. Can't be bothered to take the pipe out of the car, pack it up and send it back...

<*keeps an eye on his cats*>

Wow - I think I'll call MRT in just a moment. I installed it myself, so the I don't really mind re-installing a new one. In fact I think I'd rather have a new one so I don't have to take it somewhere to have the replacement cat welded in.

Just called them - the guy I talked to said he'd send me the warranty cards and then make sure to work with me and Magnaflow to make sure it was taken care of. So no replacement H-pipe. :(

Oh well, I hope the card gets here soon so I can get this thing fixed. The rattle is so loud I can't stand to drive the car. :(

have you gotten under the car and banged on the cat to duplicate the sound?

i had a rattle shortly after i installed my magnaflow catted x-pipe and it turned out to be the clutch inspection cover on my bellhousing...the rubber wore off of the sides and it was a little loose...just trying to help

Yeah, I climbed under it and when I bang on the cat it makes a chit load of noise.

The bad news is its three weeks later, and no warranty card has shown up in the mail. The rattle is so loud I'm only driving the car once a week just to keep the battery charged up. This morning a SES light came on - my money its the cat.

Guess I need to call MRT and find out what the dealeo is. :(

Update - I called MRT today and they are sending me a cat tomorrow. They're going to charge me for the cat a whopping $36, and then they'll refund the cost when they receive the busted cat. I'm happy. :nice:

As best as I can tell, when I first contacted them about this, they didn't know how they wanted to handle bad cats, they even mentioned they were discussing this with Magnaflow at the time. So I think I got lost in the mix.

Can't wait to get rid of this aweful rattle. :nonono:

I tried this MRT pipe....had it on for one night :nonono: The driver side cat fit so close to the floor pan I had to stop the car (no joke) so my feet could cool off. Called MRT and bitched about the poor fitment and had to pay to send it back for them to measure the pipe and see if it was a manufacturing defect. Was called back a week later saying the pipe was true and my car must be screwed up :nonono: . Stock H, Mac Prochamber, and now my Bassani X with cats all fit fine (and all installed by me).

I've since read other people have had problems with the cats fitting against the car. To me MRT= :bs:
