I figured I'd start an actual project thread. I'll show it from start to finish, engine build up, transplant, and start up. Here are the beginning pics from tonight. Just mounting the engine on the stand and some mock up pics.

Merry christmas to you....

Did you opt for upgraded springs on those AFRs??? You read a fair share of posts on both stock TF/AFR stock springs taking a dump...

Sweet Jeremy! You don't see threads like these anymore on here. What's the planned setup? I may be making one of these threads myself here shortly if I can swing what I have planned.

Thanks for the compliments so far. I'm glad you guys are excited as I am for it. But it won't be as exciting seeing that this the second time around building this combo. I had the same h.c.i on my last motor before the oil pump driveshaft snapped on the dyno and dried the motor out, reacting in every bearing burnt, crank scored, 2 cylinder walls scored beyond honing....it was a mess.

So this is my build up on the new shortblock. The heads are from Ed at FTI. With a cam that has almost .550" of lift, I already knew the stock valves springs weren't gonna work, plus I knew I wanted to rev it up a bit also. So they have been upgraded.

Some updates that I can give so far are of the engine bay. I decided it was time for a change so I took out my fiberglassed inner fenders that I made the first time I put the motor together. It was a fun project putting them together but needless to say, the heat from the motor created hair line cracks along the edge by the strut tower were it was the thinnest. So I am going to redo the bay later on with metal. For now I just repainted it.

Thanks guys. Its snowing like crazy but I managed to get to the parts store for some gaskets and other misc stuff. I'd like to get the heads and cam in today. But of course I was an idiot and forgot to grab assembly lube. So I need to go back. I also have to put all new brakes front and back for my grandmas 323i. So I've got a lot to do. Thank God for garage heaters. Haha

Haha, the race will be on man. The update for today is I got the cam in and the timing set and cover on along with the water pump. Don't mind the ugliness from the cover and pump. My old block I painted blue and it faded off. I'm not trying to go pretty this time around. What do you guys think of my harmonic balancer. You think it will last me a little longer. I don't have money for a new one right now.
