Haha, the race will be on man. The update for today is I got the cam in and the timing set and cover on along with the water pump. Don't mind the ugliness from the cover and pump. My old block I painted blue and it faded off. I'm not trying to go pretty this time around. What do you guys think of my harmonic balancer. You think it will last me a little longer. I don't have money for a new one right now.

why don't you come and pull the one off my gray car. i am not going to reuse it, and i think it might be alright. might be tough to get off due to no tranny and dead battery.

i got a puller, but i don't think i have sockets(at home) big enough to take off the crank bolt.

but yeah it's got 4in of snow on it right now. lemme know when you want to do this and i'll bring home some tools.

I'd like to do it asap, so whenever works best for you. I have the socket on my breaker bar that I can't find. My dad moved all my **** around in the garage and I can't find a damn thing. Its been frustrating. I'll try to find it tomorrow. But if not, we'll just use yours.

Time for an update. Nothing big to annouce. I'm awaiting a new balancer. I decided to just play it safe and buy a oem replacement for $60. I'm also needing to order some dowel pins for the heads. But I got the car out of the driveway and into the garage. So I decided to throw 3 more heavy coats on the engine bay. I only had 2 lights coats. So I knew it would probably chip easy. So here are the results:

Still waiting on the balancer. Hopefully it'll be here tomorrow. So today I stripped my intake because the guys who powdercoated it did a ****ty job. So I'm gonna spray it with 500 degree black for now. Question about that, is it safe to use a normal primer then the paint. Since they don't make a high temp primer? Also, I painted the block, timing cover and waterpump.

u if you use hi temp paint, i'd go all the way and get the block paint just incase bay temps get up there... and i don't know if youd' need to prime it if you just make sure you have it really clean before you paint. i cleaned my brake calipers with soap n water, using DAWN, "it cuts grease" haha, but it really does an awesome job and does cut through everything if you use that soap n' water and a brush, then dry it really well, and you can paint it how it is. make sure the first coat is then, then 2nd a little thicker, then med coat and see how it looks, then spray and don't get runs... but the first coat has to be thin, or ur wasting ur time.


btw...if you get grease on ur shirt... put dawn on it and scrub it out, and it should mostly come out, then throw it in the wash...and no more stain!

Black block paint is what I plan on using. I just didn't know if I could use a normal primer and then the block paint. But if just cleaning it with soap and water will do the trick, I'll just do that. Thanks

they DO maker hi temp primer. hopefully the intake wont get that hot though, ...although you are painting it black. ..

Yea, the black will hold a higher temp. But that block paint is good to 500 and normal intake temps are around 200 so hopefully it'll hold. Also, has anyone used the 1200 degree paint on their headers, how did it hold up. I have some extra from the block and wanna know if it'll be worth spraying them. Thanks

doesnt hold, at least not on a turbo hotside, i think mine wa 1600 ceramic too, not ceramic coating, just rattle can with ceramic in it

to clearify, i WAS talking about the 1200* paint at walmart, i thought it was called block paint... sorry. and they have 1600* caliper paint but it was more expensive, and so far the 1200 has held up on my calipers, and it's been a year of pretty harsh breaking.

It looks like the aircraft stripper that you can get from walmart or a hardware store.

I havn't had any problems with the VHT stuff yet...It does need to be baked for it to cure, but that can be done by running the engine after the headers are installed. The only problem is that the paint scratches off very easily until it's cured.

Great news Mike. Is that an order only thing or can I find it at a local hardware or car store. Also, doesn't the VHT also act as a heat sheild? So I shouldn't worry about it being black instead of silver.
Also, I used "Aircraft Stripper" to do the intake. Its a great stripper, but get the tub of it, not the aerosol spray kind. It works better. But this stuff is lethal, lol. It even says on the can that it doesn't comply with some kind of law. Haha

Well we finally started making progress last night. I got the new dowel pins for the heads. So I got the heads on last night and set the valvetrain. Lets hope that its perfect. Haha. Nah I'm sure its perfect.
