Here are some pics of this weekends Fox throttle body conversion project. I would like to thank GTJAKE for the thread and writeup, without it I wouldn't have even attempted this conversion.

I went from:

94-95 FRPP 65 mm TB
94-95 intake elbow
3" pvc pipe
Pro-m 80mm with stock pro-m filter

To:

Fox Accufab 75mm TB
UPR spacer
4" aluminium intake tubing (polished by me)
same Pro-m 80mm with AFM 8" filter
Kirban vavle cover breather filter

It took me pretty much the whole weekend. Mostly porting the upper intake to 75mm for a nice unrestricted transition and the polishing of the IAC and intake pipe took the most time. The hardest part (for me) was trying to relocate the vacuum hoses under the Edlebrock upper without removing it.

Driving impressions: definately absolutely faster throughout the entire RPM range without a doubt. It really helped my idle and slow cruising.(below 1500 rpms)
This proves to me the elbow IS a huge restriction. I don't have dyno numbers to prove it but I have a huge stack of time slips and will get to the track Friday night to see where I stand.

The only thing I didn't do yet was adjust the TPS. Do I still have to adjust it even though it idles perfectly and runs great. Maybe I just got lucky and it is right on the money.

Yes, I will be selling the 65mm FMS throttle body. It has served me well but it's time to move on.

It doesn't matter where the restrictive source is or was. Whatever it was, it is now gone. That is all that matters.
The slightly bigger filter, the bigger inlet pipe, the bigger TB and the elbow removal all help a little.

haha, nm :rolleyes: i thought you were talking about the stupid little elbow itself and not the parts as a whole. i was being retarded

I got the 75mm accufab, tps, iac, gaskets and (accufab egr spacer which I didn't use) for $200 shipped on Ebay


Got the bracket and throttle cable used off the Corral. cheap

The intake spacer was from UPR $40 with shipping UPR

The oil breather was $19

The aluminium intake tubing was $7.20 a foot, I got 2 feet

The fernco 4 to 3 reducer was ?? from Home depot

I never really added it up because I bought everything over such a long span of time. As you can see it wasn't cheap. But, I think it was worth it.
 
Awesome job man! Good call on the 75mm tb unlike what most say :) Do you know if you can get that 4" piping from home depot as well? The shop I work for (union :)) is about to start doing the telecom cabling for a home depot being built here. Theres a home depot expo right next door thats all done, if they sell the tubing I could go there after work and look into what i'd need for a home made 4" pipe. The rubber adapter 4" to 3" fits the 75mm tb good? What about for the 4" tubing to a 80mm pro m?

I know you can get 4" piping from home depot but all I could find was PVC. I wanted AL tubing. It looks so much better (after polishing), it is lighter weight, and is easier to work with. I had a PVC CAI for over a year and was tired of it.

The straight Home Depot fernco 3" to 4" reducer was for the Pro-M (3") to intake tube (4") connection.

The 4" rubber elbow 45* bend was hard to find. The above company and link were the only place I could find it. The 4" rubber bend opening fit the throttle body well. I just had to tighten the clamp a little more.
Everything fit together without any ledges or places were flow will be impeded. When I used the thicker PVC there was places where flow would be hindered.(if that makes sense)
 
NICE job on the conversion, looks very clean. Tight looking blue wires too!

The bottleneck was not the bend, however. Increasing inlet diameter has an exponential effect on the output. I took fluid dynamics last year at college. This is why, as Green92LX pointed out, putting on a bigger TB will NOT hurt your performance.

Now what he should do to go faster is run a 55mm tb and run 17lb injectors. I read on this board that will increase power. :rolleyes:

Oh and I was re-reading my post, I didn't explain it good. Basically flow loss resulting from bends in the pipes or valves in pipes is called "minor loss." It is minor (duh) and in most applications completely disregarded if the bends aren't larger then 90 degrees. Changes in pipe size are called "major loss" and drastically affect the flowrate. So while in essense you were correct in that you removed a bottleneck, you wouldn't have noticed if say you just eliminated the bend.

Well said and it makes sense. Now I have to back it up at the track...
I don't think it will be hard to get better times, because my old times were not exactly stellar. As long as my MPH improves a little, I will be satisfied.
