My Gears, Tire Size, 60' Time ?????

I currently have 3.73 gears but Im trapping at only 5,000-5,300 in the 1/4 mile. I purchased 4.10 gears but they are not installed (wont be until the spring)I run 26" slicks on 15" weld racing wheels. What I want to know is with 4.10 gears and 26" tires will I need to shift before the 60' mark and if so is that going to reek havoc on my 60' times?

I think trapping at 5300 RPMS is reaking havoc on your 1/4 mile times. There are lots of internet yodas that will tell you your 60' will be miserable unless you run a 2 speed glide. If you're serious about the 1/4 mile, you want to switch to at least 4.10s. I would think, with that combo, you'd want to shift around 6500, and cross around 6800. You might want to look at 4.30s depending on your target. My $0.02.

I already have 4.10's now so Im going to stick w/ those plus I still street drive it enough to not want 4.30's

4.10s are perfect for what trap speed your running, once your car is faster you'll need to got to a 28" tire or back to 3.73s

It's actually better to use a 26" tire and a shorter gear than to start arbitrarily putting a taller tire in the back.

so in other words I'll be fine where I am w/ the 26" tires and the 4.10s once they go in? I know I need to trap higher at the other end so a gear change was a must.

A nitrous motor is different then a naturally aspirated motor.

Horse power = (trq * RPM) / 5252

With nitrous, you increase horsepower by increasing torque (via the bottle). He doesn't have that option. He can't increase torque so he has to increase RPM. He needs the higher ratio screw to get his RPMs as high as his heads will allow to take advantage of the comparatively narrow power band.

dude you dont get what Im saying, 4.10s are perfect for what he has now, but once his car is faster (whether its from nos or a stroker or a blower) with the 4.10s he'll hit redline before the 1/4 mile. thats all Im saying.

I'll never do Nitrous, I dont plan on a blower and a stroker is to expensive. Im going to try and hit 11's as is. Drop weight, better suspension and still have a few options for adding a bit more in the power department.

whats the alternative? with a t-5, 4.10s and 26" tire 112-114mph is the fastest you can go in 4th.

I'm not sure what you are arguing, but he is right. If RPM is the limiting factor, eventually you are going to have shorten the gear to keep from having to shift to 5th, regardless of whether or not the engine is N/A or nitrous. It's a stock block 351, so you can't spin it too high.
