My Ls6 Stang goes [email protected] pic & pics

I HATE LT series SBC engines. I Hate them in mustangs, hell I hate them in the cars they came in. But after owning several Holden based GTO's w/ LS engines,....I love those things. But just as much as hating a SBC in anything, I'll take a pass on the sameness that an all-mustang car show w/ the same 5.0 w/ mods, blah-blah-blah snooze fest that typically happens all across the country.
The Car doesn't take offense that it has a different engine in it. If the car could think anything,
it probably loves going 10.ohs for the first time in its' life.

Its funny, i love LSx stuff, but someone puts a gen 3 SBC in a old ford roadster and it gets under my skin. Call it hypocritical, but the LS motors are just good. Easy to work on, awesome blocks, and for the money the L98/LS3 cylinder head cannot be beat by any brand. Factory or aftermarket.

All you guys praising him for "doing something different", please read back and rediscover the fact that he didn't do it, he bought it that way. I may be "driving 13 second and slower cars, with a signature a mile long with a list of bolt ons on it", but I spun every nut and bolt on it and built it the way I wanted it. Contrary to what a lot of you think, not everybody is about going down the track as fast as they can. Some people just like to drive their cars and have fun.

Now I'm going to go pull on my Mustang undies and head to work.

See that never bothers me either, honestly no alternative powerplant choice gets under my skin if it's done well. Now if we are talking some ultra rare piece of vintage iron that is unique because of being true to the original then sure I'd shake my head at a non-oem powerplant...then again who cares it's not my car so do whatever the hell ya want.

So what if he didn't physically install the motor/trans combo? He obviously was open minded/not worried about the powerplant being something other than blue oval when he purchased the car so what's the difference really? I could care less about going down the track as fast as you can either, that doesn't mean I can't appreciate a car like this for scooting on down the 1/4 mile with god forbid a chevrolet powerplant!

Well then Wythors, along that same line, where does your next to last sentence infer that having fun has to be in a 100% street driven mustang, w/ ford internals. Dude says he street drives the car, and I'm sure it's fun.

As I take it from an earlier post of yours, cross bred mustangs soil your mustang undies. It didn't matter whether he spun a single bolt or did the entire swap himself. My point is that different is different. Variety is interesting and similarity is boring.

I didn't mean for you to take offense and admit that you wear mustang undies. Briefs or Boxers?:D

Dammit! I hate it when somebody beats me to the same comment! Take yours back!

Is it junk? Nah. Worth doing IMO? Nah. Do I got anything in particular against Chevy's? Nah. If I wanted an LS powered strip car though... I'd probably have done the convert on a Nova or something along those lines.

That's just me though.

Seriously, when was the last time you saw a Nova for sale in your local newspaper? When was the last time you spit out the window and didn't hit a mustang? Even if there was a 74-up Nova for sale, (cause anything before that cost becomes the other factor)
How many extra dollars should some all-chevy boy have to invest in fiberglass just to have a prayer of getting a Nova to weigh what an all steel Fox coupe weighs? Not to mention 74 and up Novas look stupid.

The reasons are obvious. You can thank Ford for making a gazillion Mustangs that make a perfect platform for a race car. Regardless of the powerplant.

No offense was taken. I wear my Mustang briefs daily. Wash 'em once a week. At night, I wear my Ford PJ's. I won't tell you what I do with my Mustang g-string.

Some day when I win the lottery View attachment 191262 I'm going to go out and buy the sweetest 2-door, fuel injected, 57 Chevrolet Belair I can find and drop a bored and stroked 460 in it, just because I can. Then I'm going to drive it to all the Good Guys events and local rod runs I can find and watch the the Chevy guys go apoloplectic.

They make a pretty good platform for Ford engines too.

I just don't see the allure. Then again... I wouldn't run out and buy a Coyote motor for a Corvette either.

...and Wythors... I know you've always denied it but I specifically remember you saying that I get to wear those drawers on Wednessdays! :fuss: Welcher!

I don't think there is any way, you can personally put together a ground up build from a 100.00 junkyard 351, and build it to the power level (and durability) to make 500 whp for 3000.00. Even if you do have a rabbit in your hat, and you ebay build yourself a miracle stroker w/ all internals, heads, machine work, and induction for 3k, @ 500 whp It's still a main saddle crack waiting to happen.

Slow down, chief. So, are you trying to tell me you can build and install a 500rwhp LS1/6 into foxbody for $3,000? :rlaugh::rlaugh::rlaugh::rlaugh: GTFO! This guy bought his car with the LS1 installed. He doesn't have a clue. The only comment that he made is that you can probably buy an LS1 long-block for around $3k. That's great.... I can buy a 351W long-block for about $200. :nice:

I think you actually could do this for significantly cheaper than $3k with a budget carbed 351W and a 200-shot of nitrous. But even if you can't, you can damn sure do it for cheaper when you already have a running 302W in your car rather than dumping it and spending $3k on a stock LS1 long-block.

What is with people getting stupid about 302Ws lately? Everybody seems to think they crack like eggshells every time you push them over 400rwhp. I think it's a case of dumbasses reading the odd-ball event online and spreading it as the word of gospel. I'm telling you, if 500rwhp is all I was looking for, I'd do it with a stock shortblock and wouldn't look back. While I'm well aware that it is possible on the high side of 500rwhp, I've also seen blocks run over 600rwhp for years without ever splitting.

But a 351W? No :nono: A 351W will not split at 500rwhp unless you take a jackhammer to it. They're in pretty good shape up to about 700rwhp, and plenty have taken a lot more than that. I ran 420rwhp for about 2 years before I got stupid, screwed up the tune, upped the boost an extra 2 psi and even then at somewhere around 450rwhp, I only bent a rod. The block was fine.

Anyway, you're not going to win a cheaper argument when you compare a 302/351W combo in a fox-body with buying an LS1, installing it, and then building it to make 500rwhp. Lastly, I can see you're pretty interested in this issue by the number of your posts in this thread. Don't assume that I'm taking the opposing argument because I dislike chevy motors. Take a look at my sig, first. ;)

A camaro motor will bring way more money than a truck motor. The truck motors have more cubes, and are a better starting point for alot less money. You can get a lq4 or lq9 for 1000-1500 depending on how hard you look. A yard local to me sells the whole LQ9 motor with wiring/computer for 1500 any day of the week. you can sell alot of the parts not needed and usually be into one for around 1k. Then you have a shortblock platform that will be capable of 550 N/A hp and ready for around a 150 shot. You could build a 550 hp N/A ls motor for under 3500 bucks. Cheaper if you used the stock truck heads

Then you say, you need a k-member, and headers, and this and that... Well, if your building a 500+ hp windsor your going to need all that stuff regardless. Also, with the LS stuff, you can use a stock K-member with custom motor mounts.

I agree with FastDriver completely on the whole cheapness factor, I don't see how you could swap in an LS engine to make 500hp (rwhp or crank) and make that power cheaper than let's say an initial investment of $3k on an ENTIRE car including a good running stock 5.0 that is then built up...if you could then I would have already done it probably. I guess this really isn't the point of all the bickering though in here...

With that I think my new plan for my fox is a detroit diesel 6v53 swap.

Show me one with 550hp n/a for $3,500, please. Not doubting you, but want to see it with my own eyes. In any case, that's a lot closer to the $3k argument, but it's still not installed.

So far, I'm still thinking the 302W is impossible to beat to 500 whp.

Someone mentioned Mustang undies? Where can I buy those?

I love the LSx debates :) I'm on the nay side of this only because I'm a stupid purist and if I choose to run with a Ford, I WILL run with a Ford. But with that said, that's crazy fast and I'm sure it gets good MPG and you can drive across the country without issues. So ~ respect is needed!

My dream right now is to dump the new 5.0L into my 86, supercharge that and run a 600-700 RELIABLE HP with somewhat "okay" MPG and be proud of my old (with new parts) 5.oh! :D

Fast is fast, no matter how you get there!

Edit: To all you haters, would you go to someone in person and start telling them they're stupid to their faces? The keyboard can sure show the true personality of people :)

Heres the breakdown on the parts

364ci LQ9 motor - 1000-1500
L92 heads - 1200 with valves/springs/retainers
Intake manifold - 229 fits (under stock hood)
Cam - comp unit, $400

Theres the 3300, by the time u buy head gaskets, it will be right about 3500. Car craft did this same
motor with just a cam/header/intake swap and made 440 hp NA also.

I agree that a HCI blower 302 could make the number and be a little cheaper, but the block strength of the 302's scares people away
