My Paint job is getting too emotional, Im torn between Black and Red! Help me!

I think I am gonna go with the red,

However, How much will it affect the resale value of the car? If any?

I plan to do the engine myself when i take it out for the stroker build probably the winter time,


Id like black, but keeping it clean is just too much for me, I work all week and I never use the car in the week,
Then the weekends the car looks like crap and filthy even if its been sunny all week

Red is much more forgiving, and I do like it,
I like white too, but not as much as Red and Black

I think you can have you cake and eat it to on this one. How about putting both Black and red paint on the car. Make it two tone or have a custom paint job.

I can think of many way to combine the 2 colors. Go like the old chev chevelle make the car black and add 2 red racing strips, or paint it black and do a red flame job like this notch.

Sparkle Black with lotsa gloss is my vote. just get a $12 duster from target and the pollen and dust will come off easy in like 2 minutes.

To me the bigger issue is all the cost/bother of PROPERLY changing a color - inside door jams, under the hood, inside hatchback or trunk, the full engine compartment - it's really difficult to do that well without almost totally disassembling the car. Personally, if it can't be done correctly, I'd rather not do it at all. For that reason, I wouldn't change the color - I'd go with the black. LOVE the baby Cosworth by the way.

Yes, that is a huge job. Thats one thing the guy that did mine did a really good job on was pulling out all the crap and painting all the door jams and insides. The only part I wish he had painted was under the hood, but I can do that some day. I went from white to the blue/ teal color it is now.

I currently working two jobs to get my stang painted also, hopefully by end of month or mid august. Funny thing is that I've been going through the same dilema, RED or BLACK. I have a white car right now, I think I've already made my mind with red but I'm concerned about how much is going to cost to paint entire car including jams and repainting the moldings. I'm also thinking of painting the engine compartment black, so that I will bring the polished ss and chrome out. BTW, what did you all pay for your paint jobs?

The main factory in why i say Black is because your car is already Black now. CHanging colors makes the car look "cheaper" unless it's done right. By right i mean doing inside all the jambs and in the hatch and even under the hood. Nothing ruins a sweet paint job for me than opening the door and seeing a completely different color. It looks cheezy.

Black is tough to take care of, but it's awesome when clean and new.

Here's my car 3 weeks out of the paint shop. They (Danilchuk Auto Body in East Boston, MA) did an awesome job on the car. This pic was taken 4 years ago. Those know know me know i now have the wheels in my sig and a black interior in it now. The Black/Black combo is sweet as hell, although hot on sunny days.

I'm also thinking of painting the engine compartment black, so that I will bring the polished ss and chrome out.

The Red engine compartment does a nice job of accenting polished ss, aluminum and chrome also I think.

Mike you got any recent pics to show how the black is holding up?

also what kind of paint did they use?
Ive been quoted for a Full Urethene paint with clearcoat (I think)
They said so much stuff about paint, But they said its the best they do and have ever worked with,

I LOVE the black, and if it were easy as red to take care of there would be no choise,
But really I am so torn its affecting me now!
My Brother in Law has a 03 Stang Vert in Black,
Swirl heaven, and you can see every little mark and bit of dirt,
Its put me off having any black car ever again!

Now granted he dosent take care of his car (drives me mad! ) and he dosent wax it,

But his car always looks dirty, and I imagine my car with new paint and always looking dirty, showing the marks,
Would really pi$$ me off after spending all this money on new paint,

They said they will do all the door jams etc etc,
Under the hood I dont it looks that bad with a Black Engine bay, as long as all the rest is done,
and when I take the engine out ive seen people do wonders with a rattle can under the hood,

Stuff like the underbody Ford never painted anyway, and under the carpets its not really painted either, just a $hitload of overspray. Cheap arse Ford,
So all the areas that you see will be red except the engine bay,

A LOT of car companys DONT paint under the hood and leave it black no matter what color the car is,

I noticed that from just being a mechanic in america,
In Europe all engine bays are painted same color as the car and clearcoated too,

Ive seen that a lot,

and a Black engine bay dosent look bad in any color car IMO

None of similar quality. A friend took that photo for me. My digi cam would never even come close to showing you the shine.

I forget the type of paint, but it wasn't anything special. They used 3 coats of color and 2 coats of clear.

The paint held up fine, but i take care of it. What pissed me off is the scratches and imperfections that are on the car from 4 years of daily driving it. Nobody else noticed it, but i know every scratch on the car like the back of my hand and it bothers me.

I usually drop my car off at a local detail shop and let them buff and wax the paint regularly. Really takes the "haze" off it and makes it look just like new. GIve it to someone that knows what they are doing and there should be no swirl marks at all. You really gotta stay on top of stuff to keep tha paint looking like a million bucks.

But as shiny as the paint it, it won't hide imperfections. The biggest thing i hate about black is EVEN if it's spotless and clean, you can only enjoy it ONE DAY!! If there was a car show i was gonna go to, i would need to wash that car that morning! The next day, the car would be covered in dust and look hazey because of it. I used to hate it. Only reason why i stayed away from black when i bought my new Mustang. I got tired of having to wash it at least once a week to keep it looking good.

If i were you, i would go red, but only if it's done right. Seeing multicolored panels would bother me more than the requirements needed to keep a black car looking nice.

Ford does paint under all it's Mustang's hoods.

Mike I know the drama of washing for 2 hours and gettong 10 mins of clean car

Seriously just the 5 mins it takes me to drive from my place to the mall the car looks dusty again

My Brother in law took his car to one of those automatic car wash things yesterday

YES it came out clean, but still swirl heaven
Becides,

Today,
Dusty and Dirty again
Plus I work all week, I dont use the car becuase I live next to my job (literaly)
So I dont need to drive and the car sits there,
the amount of crap on it after a week is incredible,
I know that same amount of dirt would be on the Red paint but it dosen't show up as much,

Like I said, Black Engine bay I can deal with,
The rest they will do,

SOunds like you want red then. I don't blame you. Red is a much cleaner color, and i agree with you on letting the car sit all week.

My cars sit all week while i am at work. I usually wash them saturday morning so they are clean for the weekend.

I wanted a Red GTjust for the reason of not having to wash it too often. I got a silver one which is just as clean looking. I'm looking at it right now and the Silver GT that has not been washed in two weeks looks a lot cleaner than my LX that i washed yesterday. If we rewound back to yesterday however, Black just beats every color hands down

I 100% agree with you,

Personally I PREFER a Black Stang,
Its just ease of owning is the reason I wanted Red, and Red is my favorite color

and it does look good on fox's
If I had a garage, or a place to keep my car all wekk id go black again,
They looks amazing,


But I know I simply can't put the time and energy into keeping it clean all week due to work, I need a color as flexable as I am lol
