I just got this info on the TKO 500:
Ford Conversion:

The Ford versions (TKO-500 TCET4615) and TKO-600 TCET4617/5008) come with the following modifications to specifically fit your Ford:

late model Ford 26 spline 1 1/8” input shaft. These are the late model Ford input shaft, and ‘early’ Ford input shafts also available through from us (JAM Performance Transmissions)
Ford bearing retainer to allow it to fit right to your late model Ford bellhousing!
Ford bellhousing bolt patter to allow it to borlt right up to your late model Ford bellhousing!
Stock Ford transmission mount can be used.
Your stock Ford speedometer adapte will work with this trans, and an electronic speedo sensor is also available.
Note the Shifter: section below.
We also offer upgrades for FE and ‘early’ Ford applications, as well as 3rd Gen GM F-Body conversions.

So does this mean that the TKO500 will just bolt up no problem? I'm not sure what style imput shaft is on the car now, but if I'm reading this right then all I need is the tranny. My T5 is hurting bad after my dyno runs the other day, this project has just been moved to the front burner. I want to know what I need other than the tranny, IE- clutch, clutch fork, driveshaft, etc. Please help me out.

Sorry about not getting back to you about the heads.....I found a set of Windsor Jr's. Why not just go with a TKO or 3550? I don't know alot about the 500 and 600's but the others seem tried and true.

because the 500 is in the same price range, is replacing the older ones, and has much improved shifting and compatibility. they tested these for years before releasing them, every gripe with the old tremecs has been addressed.

PS- what are you talking about with cyl. heads?

Your car should have a ten spline tranny and clutch now so if the new tranny is 26 spline you will need a new clutch.

You had a post about your used stuff and I inquired about the stock heads......I just never got back to you about them and forgot untill I saw this post. Anyways, so it's like bolting a TKO to your car anyways. You need a new clutch just not a crossmemeber and bellhousing with these new ones. Sounds good but I didn't think they had that many problems with the old one. It's nice to see they are really getting into the Mustang scene, making them more compatible as far as fitment.

now I remember. Yeah, I'm starting to wonder what's cheaper, a 3550 with all it's necessary parts or a tko500 and a clutch.

After looking all night, I think I might just get an FRPP World Class T-5. That way, it's a direct bolt up, everything can be reused, and it's cheaper. Plus, I have a credit line with Summit Racing, and they don't sell Tremecs, but do have the T-5z.

i think the tko 500 comes with a 10 spline input unless you request a 26 spline input. check out darkhorse performance.

My 2 cents:

If I was spending upwards of a grand plus shipping for a new trans, I would make sure it would hold up to the torque I would eventually want it to handle. I have a junkyard T5 that is good enough for now, but will upgrade to a T56 eventually(WISHING). If i remember correctly, all t5s after 90 were world class, as well as some older ones. Also, the T5z is not rated that much more than the non z one. (something like 300ftlb). Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
Depending on how much power you are running, I would just get a used WCT5, and do more research on what tranny would best suit your needs.

everything is a direct bolt up
TKO500, new disc with matching spline
new bellhousing
new yoke

it is a direct bolt up, dont see the big problem understanding it.

what im tryin to say is you can get the tko500 with a 10 spline input, which would mean you can use the same clutch. correct

Its not the clutch ur replacing, its only the disc. If your upgrading the transmission, why would u want to use an old disc?Doesnt make sence, seems like you guys are making it seem harder then it actually is, id recommend calling x2c motorports. My Tko V.2 arrived yesterday. Simple bolt in, dont plan taking more then 2 hrs on it.

Using a lift and air tools, iv done a complete clutch swap in under an hour. Im not sure what Ill be using this time around, but ill let u know when its all said and done. Most people using jacks and hand tools, will probably take 2-3 hours.

Heres the straight up on this whole thing. Yes the new trannys are better since they support more torque and shift smoother. If you want a direct bolt in then order it with a 10 spline. Though ideally you should change your clutch when you change the tranny not everybody here is spoon fed by the government and can go on tax free trips to the desert for more cash. If the new trannys have standard Ford bolt patterns then technically it should be a direct bolt in since all these trannys share tranny mounts and stuff. Just call them and make sure. Tell them that you just want to pull your old T5 and install this without having to change anything else, and the way your add sounds it seems I can. Can you verify that. As long as the tranny DOES have the same bolt pattern, and you can get it with a standard 10 spline in the front and I believe 28 spline in the rear, then it should bolt right in. They come with shifters too which from the factory have internal stops so you shouldnt have to worry about that. If your low on cash and the thing does require additional stuff like a new bell and clutch, then just get a cheezo T-5 even though they are all junk. I highly recommend going through www.ddperformance.com. They have the best prices, and offer every drivetrain part under the sun. They have a good website and if you call them they will explain everything to you. They have the new tremecs, T56 conversion kits for any car,and T5s. They are selling the 330 ftlb capable T5 for $1099, and they price match if you see it anywhere else cheaper. They also often offer cheap T5s in the specials sections that are used when ever they come across them. And they still have Ford driveshafts for under $200 bucks. Hope this helps

Woah, no need to bash sureshot. Anyway, my clutch is brand new, and I'm very strapped for cash, so if I can reuse as much as possible, that'd be great. I'm on the phone with X2C now. Theirs seems like the best bet, as I plan on eventually stroking and/or supercharging in the future. They don't have a TKO500 with a 10 spline input, but I got this quote for everything I'd need: 2,500.00

Ok, time for me to end all this bickering!

I just took delivery TODAY of my TKO500 from D&D. I ordered it with a 10 spline input shaft, so the stock type clutch IS compatible. I needed a BELLHOUSING, and DRIVE SHAFT YOLK in order for it to bolt up. It cost me 1800 bucks to my doorstep in under a week!

It's going in this thursday, I'll update y'all on how the bugger drives after that.

Here's another idea I just got. My mechanic has a 2k mile 2001 Cobra Tremec at his junkyard. If I'm right, then this is the same tremec as the one on the Summit and FRPP website that requires a different crossmember and bellhousing, but uses the same clutch. Any ideas on this? If it'll work, I can get the tremec for 500.00, the bellhousing for 200, the crossmember for 80, and I can reuse my clutch.

Okay, it's not the same tranny. The tremec that Summit sells for FRPP is a 3550. I know which tremec tranny my mechanic has up there, not the model, but that it's from a 2001 cobra 4.6. Is there a way to get a 2001 4.6 cobra tremec tranny onto a 5.0? I can get the tranny for 500.00

Double edit- Called SVT. The 95 Cobra R came with a 3550, which is what Summit sells. The 01 Cobra came witha 3650, which is what my mechanic has. So the stuff from summit won't work with it. Is there a way to get a 4.6 tranny onto a 5.0 motor? I assume it's a special bellhousing, and I know some guys use the t-56 cobra 6 speed, so there's gotta be a way. Help me out.
