My T-5 is dying quick, want to do a TKO500, help me understand

Dont worry man I just finished a 5.5 year hump in the Corps and spent part of that in Bahrain, Iraq and Turkey. And do I hear you about the 1 hour tranny change since I really miss my hobby shop at Miramar. I told you guys D&D is good to go. I checked their site and all the new Tremecs are the 31 spline output so you need a new driveshaft yoke. It didnt say anything about stock T5 bolt patterns so wherever you saw that you need to call them and verify that. And no the 4.6 trannys cant be mated. They have integrated bellhousings that dont match the bolt pattern on the engine and the input shafts are longer and I believe the trans mount is different and depending on the length you may need to do something about the driveshaft. The closest you will come to direct bolt in is to use a 3550 because it comes with a shifter new, and has the same input and output spline as a T5. And dont worry about the tranny mount or crossmember since all these trannys use the same stuff to bolt in. You just need to get a tremec bellhousing or use an SROD bellhousing from an older 4 speed fox body. A 3550 is much stronger than a T5 and will take the abuse of even a supercharger. Its not the strongest tranny out there, but its by far your best bet considering your money crunch and that its far superior to the T5. Ideally we all want a T56, but every situation is different so filling his head with ideas that he needs to get a $2000 top of the line unit is ridiculous. In fact there is a 3550 on Ebay with bellhousing, clutch fork, and crossmember for $1200. It ends in 4 hours. These trannies are cheap and shouldnt cost you more than $1500 even if you buy everything new. All you need is the tranny and the bellhousing.

Did you not just read my post "prick". I just came back from Iraq and I'm permanently disabled. Do you want me to send the pics of my leg? Why dont you learn to read before you judge. I think I'm the only one here qualified to joke around with him. And dont buy into FRPP's crap. Your crossmember will work fine but you dont have to take my word for it since I have a TKO in my car right now with a stock crossmember.

No more personal crap in here, and mr. Smockdoiley, ur right, you are the only one in here that can joke with me. Sorry to hear about your injury, good luck and get better. NOw back to the tranmissions..

This is straight from X2C, migth help some of u out:

"D&D must be mistaken, all of our TKO 500's have 26 spline input shafts and we have never heard of a 10 spline option??, I have over 15 in stock and have sold about 10 of our new V 1 500's and they are all 26 spline, the term 500hp and 10 spline dont go well together!! if you like we can send you a pic. As far as strength differences between a V1 and a stock TKO 500, our V 1 holds 200+ft lbs more. As far as a V 2 compared to a stock TKO 600 we are able to hold about 300+ft lbs more. These are not available any longer though, our new V 1 500 is now ready for shipment and holds 750+ft lbs, we even extend the factory warranty."

This is the New X2C TKO 500 V.1, holds 750+hp. 26 spline input shaft. NO 10 Spline option.

I'm not saying their trannys are crap. Honestly you can get any tranny to support any power number. Hell you can build up an AOD, lol. The new Tremec 600 has quote "successfully supported 600+ ftlbs at preliminary drag testing." Thats more than enough for anybody on this site save for a few people. So if I really need something more than that then Id just get a T56 because there are countless fools running up to 1000 horses through those things and Ive yet to hear of a failure or someone complaining about them. The truth is we can compare trannys all day but none is better than the other because they can all be built to support whatever, the problem is money and not everybody has it. I never said D&D offered a 10 spline option because I didnt see that on their site. All I found was that all the new trannys have 31 spline outputs. I said if he found a place that offers that along with a T5 bolt pattern he better verify that. Really, comparing $2000+ trannys isnt helping him since he wont be able to afford one. And again, for his budget and application I suggest the 3550 especially since Summit sells them and he has credit with them. And lastly if you are running 750+ horsepower and drag racing, you seriously need to go to a dedicated automatic because a stick at that point is only hurting you.

1) No bashing ANY servicemen, they all put it on the line every day so we can sit around and play with our cars and do everything else we do. 2) Yeah, the credit is a major factor in my decision, only because I'll have a year to pay off 600.00 of my tranny with no interest, which is a major help right now. Plus, I doubt I'd ever make enough power to take down a 3550, atleast not for a long time, and by then I'll be out of school and making good money, and then it's T56 baby.

They want $1850 for the things, and all they really do is debur the gears and freeze then to strengthen them. They dont add any new parts to it really. Not that they arent good its just why they only cost like $300 more than a standard tremec. Good luck with that 3550, its a good tranny for you.

I was just under the car, tightening up my clutch cable, and there was tranny fluid all on the bottom of the tranny and it was coming from where the tranny and bellhousing meet. Tightening the cable didn't work, and now at times I simply can't get into 1st or 2nd. Since my car got into an accident, I'm gonna be spending some money on a complete body kit and paint job. My mechanic has a T-5 he'll sell me for 250, and if I can make it last through till next summer, I'll slap a TKO in then. I don't think my T-5 has long to live, as it makes more noises every day.
